Wedge is in place across the northern portion of the CWA this
afternoon. A weak wave of low pressure is situated off the NE FL/SE
GA coasts. Models have the low pressure meandering up the SE coast
overnight into early Thursday then moving onshore later in the
afternoon/evening. Not confident on exactly how far inland across
the Carolinas this low will make it, especially if the wedge gets
reinforced overnight with precip.

Clouds have begun to break with some sunshine beginning to peek
through. Do expect clouds to fill back in overnight, with some
patchy rain developing during the evening on the back side of the
weak low pressure system. P-Type should mostly be rain, but some
sleet could mix in across the higher elevations at onset. No ice
accumulation is anticipated at this time.

A brief break in the precip is possible tomorrow afternoon ahead of
the arctic front. Precipitation associated with the front should
begin to impact the far NW corner of the CWA by 00Z and rapidly
progress eastward during the overnight hours. Since the system is
moving so quickly, this will limit QPF values. Very cold air is on
the back side of this front, so a brief sw or rwsw mix is possible
immediately behind the front. Very little snow accumulation is
anticipated, with the highest values possible across the higher
terrain of north GA.

Winds will also pick up behind the front and a Wind Advisory will
likely need to be issued sometime tomorrow.

The big story for this forecast cycle will continue to be the
anomalously cold temperatures settling into the area. The Arctic
cold front will be in the process of rapidly sweeping across the
forecast area at the onset of the period Friday morning. Any light
precipitation will have ended by sunrise Friday, and temperatures
will be crashing from northwest to southeast. Air temperatures will
remain in the teens for areas north of metro Atlanta through the day
Friday with temperatures struggling to breach the 20 degree mark
Friday afternoon in and around the Atlanta metro. Farther south,
temperatures will be dropping towards and below the freezing mark
through the day.

As northwest winds of 15-25 mph and gusts over 30 mph will persist
on Friday, frigid wind chill values will remain in the single digits
in north Georgia to as low as -10 in the north Georgia mountains
during the day, dropping even colder Friday night despite winds
beginning to slacken. Wind chill values Friday night into Saturday
morning will drop below zero across all of north Georgia to as cold
as -15 to -20 in the higher elevations of the north Georgia
mountains with values in the single digits above zero elsewhere.
Thus, a Wind Chill Warning will be in effect for north Georgia for
forecast wind chill values below -10 while a Wind Chill Advisory
will be in effect for the remainder of the forecast area.

Saturday morning (Christmas Eve) will bring the coldest temperatures
of this event with lows ranging through the single digits for areas
north of I-20 into the teens for the remainder of the area.
Temperatures will remain below freezing through the day Saturday
with widespread teens again Sunday (Christmas) morning. A slow
moderation in temperatures begins Sunday with temperatures rising
above freezing in central Georgia and nearing or briefly breaching
the freezing mark finally in parts of north Georgia, including metro
Atlanta.

Thereafter, conditions will remain chilly for several days but will
continue to edge warmer each day. Any appreciable precipitation
chances look to hold off until beyond the end of the current
forecast period.

precipitation is possible across north and west Georgia as rain
quickly changes to snow. Accumulations are expected to be minimal
and generally less than a half inch. However, areas of dangerous
icy conditions will become possible on the roads where wet spots
remain as temperatures drop well below freezing Friday morning.

Thursday night through the weekend, extremely cold temperatures
are expected across north and central Georgia. High temperatures
will struggle to get out of the teens to lower 30s on Friday and
mid 20s to lower 30s on Saturday across much of the area, and low
temperatures will be between 5 and 20 degrees Friday and Saturday
night.

Gusty winds are expected Friday and Saturday with wind chill
values forecast to be as cold as 5 to 15 degrees below zero for
parts of north Georgia during the early morning each of these
days.
