.SYNOPSIS...Light rain showers will dissipate across Northwest
California this evening. That will be followed by clearing skies
late tonight, which will aid in valley frost and fog development
during Sunday morning. Mild temperatures are then expected during
Sunday afternoon across most interior valleys. Otherwise, another
chance of rain will occur Monday morning as a cold front sweeps
southeastward across the region.
&&
.DISCUSSION...An upper-level low was moving east across WA/OR this
afternoon. Moist westerly flow occurring within the basal portion
of the low combined with weak land-based afternoon destabilization
was aiding in widespread strato-cumulus development and isolated
showers over NWRN CA. Midlevel heights will rise tonight, and as
the boundary layer stabilizes, cloudiness will clear across much
of the interior. Patchy fog along with areas of frost will likely
develop early Sunday morning as a result...and pockets of freezing
temperatures are expected for wind sheltered valleys in southern
Trinity and eastern Humboldt Counties. Temperatures will then
rebound into the 60s and 70s during Sunday afternoon across the
interior as a midlevel ridge progresses east across the region.
That will be followed by another upper trough moving east across
the PACNW during Monday. An associated cold front will sweep
southeastward across NRN CA and aid in Monday morning rainfall
followed by gusty post-frontal north-northwesterly winds from
midday Monday through the afternoon.
Another period of upper ridging is forecast to occur Tuesday and
Wednesday, which will favor dry weather and frosty mornings.
Thereafter, model guidance shows a trough passage on Thursday,
and that feature may aid in another round of very light rainfall
across Del Norte County. Progressive westerly flow is then
forecast to persist Friday into Saturday, which will keep NWRN CA
exposed to additional bouts of precipitating storm systems.

.AVIATION...Lingering post-frontal clouds and isolated showers are
forecast to dissipate across Northwest California late this
evening. Some patchy fog will be possible across wind sheltered
valleys Sunday morning. In addition, northerly ridgetop winds near
30 kt will aid in low-level wind shear in the vicinity of KUKI
tonight.

.MARINE...Strong surface high pressure over the NERN PAC will aid
in north winds gusting to 30 kt across the southern coastal waters
through Sunday night. North winds will then strengthen to near-
gale-force Monday morning through Tuesday for areas south of Cape

Winds are then forecast to gradually weaken Wednesday into
Thursday.
