.SHORT TERM...(Today and Tuesday)

Upper level ridging continues to develop over the region while a
trough approaches the Pacific Coast per latest GOES 16/17
Satellite imagery. Overall dry and milder conditions are expected
today across southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle as
afternoon highs reach into the 40s east of the Laramie Range and
30s west. These slightly warmer than average temperatures (around
5F degrees) will continue into Tuesday despite the approaching
shortwave trough. Moisture with this system will be low overall
drying out over the Intermountain-West, but will support elevated
gradients across the region leading to high wind potential for the
wind-prone areas of southeast Wyoming.
Current MSLP analysis shows a fairly tight gradient across the
Laramie Range around 6mb which has led to wind gusts 45-50 MPH at
Bordeaux this morning. This should continue this morning before
gradients relax temporarily. While a brief period of 60 MPH wind
gusts cannot be ruled out this morning, better potential for high
winds will be present tonight into early Tuesday with mountain
wave activity likely ahead of the shortwave. Additionally, high
winds are possible near Arlington with 50+ knot flow at 700mb and
850mb CAG-CPR height gradients around 70m. Therefore, a High Wind
Watch was issued starting at 8PM this evening for the Arlington
and Bordeaux areas. Pressure gradients look to relax near Bordeaux
after 18z Tuesday while another round of enhanced 700mb flow
moves over Arlington Tuesday night. Upcoming shifts will need to
take another look at the South Laramie Range as flow shifts more
northwesterly which could favor high wind potential as well.
.LONG TERM...(Wednesday through Sunday)

Models continue to show a pretty quiet weather pattern across the
Front Range for most of this week and through next weekend. High
amplitude ridge axis is forecast to dominate the pattern through
late Thursday. The GFS no longer shows the cut off low ejecting
northeast out of southern Calif late in the week. All models now
keep this energy near the California coastline or near the
Calif/Arizona border through the weekend. Mild and pleasant
weather expected Wednesday and Thursday with highs above seasonal
averages. High temperatures will likely climb into the 50s to near
60 across the eastern plains of southeast Wyoming and most of
western Nebraska. Once again, winds appear to be elevated in the
Wind Prone areas Wednesday and perhaps early Thursday morning.
For Friday and the weekend, all models and ensembles show the next
strong cold front pushing south out of Canada late Thursday night
and early Friday morning. Most of the energy with the potent upper
level trough looks to stay to the northeast across the Dakotas and
Minnesota, but enough upslope flow and forcing along the front
will likely lead to some snow shower activity across the region
Friday, especially across the mountains. At this time, impacts
look to be minimal or limited across the area. High temperatures
on Friday and Saturday will be around 20 to 25 degrees cooler
compared to Thursday with highs struggling to reach freezing along
and west of I-25, and in the upper 30s to low 40s further east
into western Nebraska. Kept POP between 20 to 40 percent Friday,
highest in the mountains. Another reinforcing shot of colder air
is possible on Sunday with progressive northwest flow aloft.
