Radar showing next to nothing where we had our winter weather
advisories in effect this evening. Went ahead and dropped most of
the winter weather advisories. Did keep the Summit...where webcams
are still showing some light snow ongoing. Updates have been sent.

Key Impact Messages:
1) A local Blizzard Warning in effect through 5am Friday due to
ongoing high winds of 50 to 70 mph causing localized whiteout
conditions from blowing snow between Laramie and Rawlins. Elevated
winds near the I-80 Summit also causing reduced visibilities from
blowing snow.
2) A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the last remaining
snow showers and also elevated winds combining with fresh powder
snowpack causing blowing and drifting snow across many portions
of the area tonight.
3) Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect for the Sierra and Snowy
Mountain Ranges for an additional 12-18" of snow now through early
Friday morning. Elevated winds here can also cause reduced
visibilities for any snowmobilers or recreationists.
Weather Details: Surface high pressure across the Dakotas coupled
with lower surface pressure over the Intermountain West high
terrain leading to high winds in conjunction to brisk H7-H5 flow
underneath a slowly departing jet max aloft. This jet max and
isentropic upglide with orographic lift continues to support light
snow showers over the High Plains and light to moderate snow over
the Snowy and Sierra Madre Ranges. QG lift should slowly abate
through mid- to late-evening hours. Local light snow bands will
be likely this afternoon as subtle elevated instability exists
underneath strong low-level inversions, per model soundings.
Continued drying in the mid-levels should reduce this instability
as well as overall snow coverage through the late evening hours
across the High Plains. However, mountain snow will continue
tonight into Friday morning until drier airmass shifts into the
region overnight. The elevated winds this evening and tonight
will act to warm adjacent High Plains of Southeast Wyoming near
the Laramie range with a likely midnight high tonight for the day
as temperatures slowly increase this evening and night with the
downsloping winds.
Next impact to monitor for will be the continued High Winds
Friday into Saturday. Perhaps a brief lull late morning into the
afternoon Friday but then increasing once again for wind prone
areas and adjacent areas Friday night into Saturday morning. Will
need to monitor for additional blowing snow during this time but
warming temperatures may help the current snowpack crust over
more and be less blowable. A new High Wind Watch or possibly
extension of the current High Wind Warnings will need to be
extended Friday into Saturday as this trend has increased over the
past 24 hours. Friday will be a much warmer day then today as H7
temperatures warm significantly from the current -15C to -10C to
+1C to +4C this time tomorrow. Overall impacts decreasing through
the day Friday depending on much less snow becomes blowable.
.LONG TERM...(Friday night through Thursday)

Not much change in the long term forecast. The primary weather
concern Saturday remains the prolonged high winds for the wind prone
areas. However, winds do start to come down Saturday afternoon with
the passage of a cold front. This cold front will be mostly dry for
the lower elevations, but will lead to a couple inches of
accumulating snow for the Sierra Madre and Snowy Ranges.
Sunday, temperatures across the CWA will range from average to below
average due to the passage of the cold front. Luckily, an upper-
level ridge begins to build into the Rockies on Sunday. This ridge
will continue to build through the first half of the week and will
lead to a warming pattern across the CWA. Temperatures Monday
through Wednesday will be well above average, especially east of
the Laramie Range. This ridge will also keep conditions dry
through most of the week. Our next precipitation chance may be
sometime late next week. &&

The main aviation concerns today are strong winds combined with
blowing snow. Southeast Wyoming terminals will mainly be affected by
the strong winds and blowing snow. Wind gusts of over 50 kts are
possible later this afternoon and into the overnight hours. These
strong winds, coupled with freshly fallen light, powdery snow could
lead to blowing snow which could severely reduce visibilities.
Cannot rule out blowing snow at Nebraska panhandle terminals since
the snow is so light and powdery, however, it is less likely since
winds will be fairly light there today. Snow showers are also
possible at all terminals this afternoon and evening. Any snow that
does fall should be light in intensity but will still cause
visibility reductions. The other concern is widespread LLWS due
to very strong flow aloft. Overall, not great conditions.

Temperatures have warmed considerably to above freezing this
evening for SE WY terminals, so blowing snow is becoming less of a
concern. However, very gusty winds of 45 to potentially 55 knots
for KRWL, KLAR, and KCYS overnight are possible at times. Mostly
light and VRB winds to 12 knots at the western NE Panhandle
terminals are anticipated overnight. LLWS is still a concern for
the overnight period for the SE WY terminals and KSNY overnight.
