.SHORT TERM...(Today through Friday)

Northwest flow aloft prevailed between a upper ridge axis off the
Pacific Coast and upper trough axis over the MS River Valley. A
thick veil of mid and high level clouds covered much of the CWA
overnight. Temperatures were in the 20s and 30s, and winds outside
the wind prone areas were variable to westerly 5-15 kt. Gusts up
to 45 kt were observed near the I-80 Summit and between Laramie
and Rawlins.
Concerns for the short term will focus on strong wind potential and
precipitation associated with a couple of shortwave troughs. The
first trough moving through MT this morning will advance quickly
southeast across WY and Northern/Central Plains this afternoon and
early evening. Precipitation associated with this trough will be
light rain and snow spreading northwest to southeast. The higher
peaks of the Snowy Range could measure 1-3 inches of snow, with
lesser amounts elsewhere. A tight low level pressure gradient will
produce gusty west to northwest winds today. High temperatures
this afternoon will be similar to Monday with 30s to low 40s west
and mid 40s to low 50s east.
The 700/850mb CAG-CPR and CAG-BRX height gradients rise above 60
meters late tonight, peaking Thursday evening. The Arlington-Bordeaux
surface pressure gradient peaks near 7mb Thursday evening. Local
in-house random forest high wind probabilities for Arlington exceed
40 percent at 12Z Thursday, and peak at 80 percent Thursday night.
Bordeaux exhibits a similar trend, however probabilities are
20-30 percent less than Arlington. This time period coincides with
700-800mb flow of 50-60kt. Confidence is at least moderate for a
high wind episode, and issued a High Wind Watch for WY Zones 106,
110 and 116 from 5 AM Thursday to 5 AM Friday. Did not consider WY
Zone 117 at this time, but later shifts can re-evaluate. It will
be milder Thursday with highs in the 50s along and east of I-25,
and 30s and 40s to the west.
The second shortwave trough will have a bit more energy and moisture
to work with on Friday. PoPs were raised to 30-50 percent along
and west of I-25. Snow accumulations of 1-3 inches will be possible
along the Laramie Range. It will be colder Friday with highs in
the upper 20s to low 40s.
.LONG TERM...(Saturday through Tuesday)

Saturday...The flow aloft backs slightly to north northwest with
increasing heights and thicknesses, making for a slow warming trend.
Dry conditions due to limited low and mid level moisture.
Sunday...As a ridge aloft moves closer to our region, with increasing
heights aloft and with 700 mb temperatures warming to near 0 Celsius,
we anticipate another warming trend with maximum temperatures near
40 degrees west of I-25, and mid 40s to mid 50s east of I-25.
Monday...Another mild day expected as a flattening ridge aloft
transitions over Wyoming, producing dry conditions. Maximum
temperatures should be even warmer with westerly flow aloft and 700
mb temperatures near 2 Celsius.
Tuesday...Turning colder again as the flow aloft backs to southwest
ahead of the next approaching shortwave trough aloft over Utah, and
a cold front dips southward across our counties. Will match our
neighboring offices in bringing in a chance for snow from west to
east across southeast Wyoming in the afternoon.
