.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure over the upper Great Lakes drifts eastward
overnight with its cold front moving into the central Great
Lakes by sunrise. Another low pressure develops over the
northern Gulf of Mexico on Friday moving northeastward as it
deepens. This low moves up the East Coast on Saturday. High
pressure builds over the region by on Sunday morning.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
1230 AM update...
No changes needed at this point. Will assess 00Z guidance and
provide detailed updates with the next update.

Previous discussion...
Another area of low pressure moves over the upper Great Lakes
tonight. This low moves across Ontario on Friday with its cold
front sagging southward into the region. Expect to see some snow
develop near the frontal boundary as it moves into the central
Great Lakes by sunrise Friday. There looks to be enough moisture
and just cold enough for some light snow to develop through
mid/late morning across NW OH, then change over to rain. Further
to the east the precipitation arrives late enough in the day
with the warm advection assisting with the increase in
temperatures. So that should mean all rain for the afternoon
across the CWA. Lows tonight dip into the 20's. Highs on Friday
range from the upper 30's across NW OH to near 50 across the
southeastern CWA.

A cold front crosses the region from northwest to southeast
through the evening with rain changing to snow. All locations
should be snow by midnight with some locally heavy snowfall
possible across the eastern CWA. NAM is indicating an area of
negative EPV over the northeastern CWA early Saturday morning
with some heavier bands of snow possible. We have hoisted a
Winter Storm Watch for NW PA since we expect some heavier snow
late Friday night then add on some lake effect snow Saturday.
Lows Saturday night dip to the teens.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
Late winter storm will affect the local area during this forecast
period as digging upper level trough from James Bay south to the
Gulf of Mexico moves east toward the area. A surface low pressure
system is expected to move northeast ahead of the upper level trough
and deepen rapid. Model runs have been gradually shifting the track
of the surface low a tad bit further east A shift in the overall
heavy snow track has also been shifting east as well. Current
indications place the heaviest snow band through southeast Ohio
and western Pennsylvania with an extension further north into
northwest Pennsylvania. The combination of the synoptic snow
with the storm system and lake enhancement could possibly bring
higher snow amounts to Erie and Crawford Counties and then taper
off from east to west. The speed of this system exiting to the
east Saturday afternoon will pull the synoptic snow with it and
then transition over to lake effect snow showers.

A cold front is expected to slide southeast into the area Friday and
become nearly stationary just east of the area allowing the surface
low to track northeast.  Behind the cold front, Arctic air will
return and keep temperatures on the cold side. Temperatures at
850 MB will plummet from -6 degrees C down to around -20 degrees
C. A marked drop in mid level temperatures will result in
surface temperatures Saturday only in the lower to middle 20s
for highs. Coldest air arrives Saturday afternoon into Saturday
night resulting in lows in the teens across the area. A surface
high pressure will quickly build east Sunday into the local area
resulting in a return back to some warm air advection behind a
warm front expected to lift northeast into the region during the
afternoon. Some moisture associated with the warm front could
bring some clouds to the area Sunday that will lift to the
northeast Sunday night. Sunday's highs will be in the middle 40s
west to the middle 30s extreme east. Lows Sunday night are
expected to be in the middle 30s (or nearly steady) in the west
to middle 20s east.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Monday is looking like another upper level trough will move east
into the area with a surface low pressure expected to move east
across James Bay. The low will force a cold front east across
the area Monday afternoon/evening. The front could bring
associated moisture along with positive vorticity advection
aloft to support some shower activity across the area. Best
chance will be in the northern tier counties. The cold front
will move east and allow high pressure to build into the area
from the west as a result of upper level flow becoming more
zonal across the Lower 48 by Tuesday night. Shortwaves are
expected to move east in the mean flow by Wednesday and disturb
the upper level flow. This will in turn force weak storm systems
to move east across the central United States Wednesday through
Thursday. This trend will keep the cold air north of the
forecast area for the time being allowing for a quiet trend to
develop. Temperatures Monday will be in the 50s for highs with a
slight setback for Tuesday after the cold frontal passage.
Tuesday's highs will be in the middle 50s west to middle 40s
east. A surge of warm air should return for Wednesday nudging
temperatures into the middle 60s west and middle to upper 50s
east. Thursday is expected to be warmer in the lower to middle
60s in advance of the next storm system. A warming trend will
also result with the low temperatures through the period.

.AVIATION /06Z Friday THROUGH Tuesday/...
A slow-moving front will slide east into the area today,
pushing rain and snow east across the area this morning into
this afternoon. Expect precip to begin at KTOL/KFDY by 12 to 13Z
this morning, spreading east to KERI by 18Z and KYNG by 00Z
this evening. Precip type may start off as rain or a rain/snow
mix, but expect snow to quickly develop within a couple of
hours. Ceilings and visibilities will drop to MVFR and IFR by
this evening. A period of moderate to heavy snow is possible
this evening, which may reduce visibilities below IFR, mainly
east of a line from KCLE/KMFD. Snow will slowly begin to taper
off at western terminals by the end of the TAF period.

Light and variable winds this morning will give way to
increasing westerly winds throughout the day today, becoming
northwesterly and increasing to 10 to 15 knots with gusts of 20
to 25 knots possible by the end of the TAF period.

continuing in lake effect snow showers Saturday
afternoon/evening across NE OH/NW PA.

Lake is expected to be relatively quiet this afternoon through
Friday ahead of the next storm system expected to move northeast
along the East Coast. As the system arrives Friday night into
Saturday, winds will be increasing resulting in waves of 3 to 5
feet where the lake is ice free Friday night. After the low
begins to move northeast of the area Saturday, winds will
increase a bit further and waves should be around 6 to 8 feet in
the ice free areas. Winds will remain gusty through Sunday as
high pressure builds in from the west. A small craft advisory
will likely be needed during this time period. Otherwise, winds
gradually diminish Monday into Tuesday as a high pressure center
moves east across the central Great Lakes region.
