.SYNOPSIS...
A colder airmass arrives in the region today ahead of high pressure
building in from the west. The next clipper system will move east
across the Great Lakes overnight then continue east to New England
on Saturday. Another area of high pressure will build east across
the Great Lakes over the weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Lake effect snow continues early this afternoon across NE OH and
NW PA, though coverage will be gradually decreasing and shifting
north and east through the rest of the afternoon as upper
ridging arrives from the west. Anticipate we will be able to
expire the remaining warnings and advisories across far NE OH
and NW PA.

Previous discussion...
As synoptic snow starts to pull away we are left with some
enhancement off Lakes Huron and Erie across the snowbelt. A band of
snow can be seen on radar imagery coming off Lake Huron and this is
expected to be focused towards Ashtabula and Erie Counties this
morning. Remaining winter weather headlines are scheduled to expire
at 7 AM but will monitor the need for some possible extensions,
especially towards Ashtabula or NW Pennsylvania. One mitigating
factor is the dry air observed in observations and noted on
satellite imagery across Southeast Michigan where skies have
cleared and dewpoints are in the single digits. This drier air
will overspread Lake Erie this morning as we also lose deeper
moisture aloft and will lead to some weakening of the lake
enhanced snowfall. Even in areas where snow has ended, expect
untreated surfaces will be slick across much of the area
following the mixed precipitation overnight and temperatures
that have fallen into the lower 20s.

The Flood Watch expired overnight with several rivers remaining in
flood. Additional hydrologic warnings are unlikely at this point
although some rivers, streams, and creeks may continue to experience
rises as water moves through the river system.

High pressure will build overhead today with even some warm
advection getting underway across NW Ohio late in the afternoon.
Otherwise temperatures will be much cooler than the last couple
days with most areas seeing temperatures falling through the
morning. The next clipper system can be seen on satellite
imagery moving into the Upper Midwest this morning. Low pressure
is forecast to reach the Upper Great Lakes tonight with a
strong low level jet moving overhead in the warm sector and
support gusty winds with gusts of 30- 40 mph. Temperatures will
trend warmer overnight ahead of the cold front. This system will
be located north of Lake Erie by Saturday morning with the cold
front already mid-way through the local forecast area. There
will be a chance of snow showers for most areas overnight with
the front but best chances will be across the snowbelt where
lake enhanced snow is expected to flare up towards sunrise. A
good burst of snow is expected followed by lake effect snow
showers continuing on Saturday with a west northwest flow across
Lake Erie. Some moisture contribution off the upstream lakes is
expected and raised pops to likely across the snowbelt. Much of
the snowbelt can expect 1-3 inches of snow with locally higher
in NW Pennsylvania but will need to monitor for any more
persistent bands that may develop.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
One more cold night Saturday night as high pressure slides
through...any lingering lake effect flurries should get pushed out
over the lake and end by early in the evening. Return flow behind
the high for Sunday pushes temps into the 40s with dry weather. We
stay dry Sunday night. On Monday, lee cyclogenesis will occur over
the southern Plains and a frontal boundary will begin developing to
our north across the Great Lakes. A little wave ejecting out of the
southern Plains in the sub-tropical jet will bring a surge of
moisture towards the Ohio Valley. With all of this said, the
National Weather Service County Warning Area looks to be between all
of these features for the day Monday, giving a dry and mild
Washington's Birthday. As the cyclone ejects out of the southern
Plains towards the Mississippi Valley Monday night and the
aforementioned sub-tropical moisture moves towards the Ohio Valley,
brought POPs for rain into the area Monday night. Forecast has a bit
of snow mix mentioned in NW PA but suspect that will get nixed as we
get closer.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Busy weather continues next week. The pattern will feature a trough
over the western US, ridge over the southeast US, but with a polar
vortex near Hudson Bay pressing in a bit after midweek, keeping us
from an unbridled warm pattern after midweek. As mentioned above, a
wave ejecting out of the west will cause a lee cyclone to track from
the Plains into the Great Lakes Tuesday into Tuesday night. This
will bring mainly rain beginning Monday night through Tuesday night,
tapering at some point towards Wednesday. We'll still be saturated
so will need to watch for more water issues. At the moment, guidance
keeps the heaviest QPF into the Ohio Valley as that's where they
focus the bulk of sub-tropical moisture. The hope is that idea holds
as heavier rainfall is no good right now. The next piece of the
trough will eject out of the west towards Thursday night and Friday,
sending a low towards the Ohio Valley or southern Great Lakes. The
pattern won't be extremely cold, but with the aforementioned polar
vortex influence to our north during the second half of next week, a
hodge podge of precip types may be possible. Began ramping POPs up
into Thursday for this next system, though main impacts may be
Thursday night into Friday. We'll keep an eye on that system for
potential water or wintry issues as we get closer.

.AVIATION /18Z Friday THROUGH Wednesday/...
Mixed-bag of generally MVFR and VFR across the TAF sites this
afternoon, though brief pockets of IFR vsbys in lake effect snow
are possible, at least into the mid-afternoon. Otherwise,
anticipating all TAF sites to improve to VFR by this evening.
MVFR ceilings will arrive from west to east across the TAF
sites in snow and a strong arctic cold front tonight into
Saturday morning. Brief IFR vsbys will be possible along the
front in snow. Following the frontal passage, lingering MVFR
ceilings are likely across the TAF sites. Lake effect snow may
impact CLE/CAK/YNG/ERI, but coverage remains uncertain at this
time.

Winds will gradually shift towards the southwest, then south
through this afternoon and evening, around 10 knots. Southerly winds
ramp up late this evening and overnight ahead of a strong cold
front, 20 to 25 knots with gusts of 30 to 35 knots. Behind the
strong cold front, a sharp wind shift towards the west is
expected, with elevated winds in the 15 to 25 knot range and
gusts of 30 to 35 knots. Winds may begin to slightly shift
towards the northwest by the end of the TAF period, though wind
speeds will still be elevated.

Outlook...Non-VFR likely in rain late Monday through Tuesday
night.

.MARINE...
Northwest winds will experience a downward trend this morning as
a ridge builds in behind the departing system. Winds will start
to back around to the southwest late this afternoon and become
strong tonight as a low level jet moves over Lake Erie in
advance of the next clipper system. A Gale Warning has been
issued for Lake Erie with most of the lake experiencing Gale
conditions for about a 6 hour window. The next cold front will
arrive early Saturday morning, shifting the winds to westerly
and decreasing. High pressure will build in by Saturday night
and allow for winds to diminish across the lake from earlier in
the day and back around to the south as the surface high slides
east for Sunday.

Portage...southwestern Geauga...northeastern Cuyahoga and
northeastern Summit Counties Until 1215 PM EST....

At 1117 AM EST, radar indicated an intense lake effect snow band
along a line extending from near Lakewood to Solon, moving east at 15
mph.

HAZARDS INCLUDE...
Winds to 30 mph... Visibility rapidly dropping to less than a
quarter to half of a mile...

Locations impacted include...
Cleveland, Parma, Lakewood, Euclid, Cleveland Heights, Solon, Hudson,
Twinsburg, Streetsboro, Warrensville Heights, Macedonia, South
Russell, Highland Hills, Garfield Heights, Shaker Heights, Maple
Heights, South Euclid, Mayfield Heights, East Cleveland and Aurora.

Use extra caution if you must travel into or through this lake effect
snow band. Rapid changes in visibility and potentially slick roads
are likely to lead to accidents. Consider delaying travel until this
snow band passes your location.
