.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure moves from Ontario into Quebec today with its cold
front stalling over the central Great Lakes tonight. A strong
area of low pressure over the Southern Plains is expected to
move northeastward along this cold front. The front moves into
northern Ohio by Thursday afternoon as a deepening area of low
pressure moves across central Ohio by Thursday evening. High
pressure briefly returns to the area on Friday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Southerly winds are beginning to pick up across the region this
morning, with some more enhanced winds along the immediate
lakeshore where a recent 56 mph gust was observed at BKL.

Previous Discussion...
A strong pressure gradient will exist over the area today as
low pressure moves from central Ontario into Quebec. A strong
low level jet is expected to be over the CWA today. The
uncertainty is how much of the strong winds will reach the
surface under a strong warm advection pattern. The more breaks
in the cloud cover we see today the stronger the wind gusts.
Will continue with the Wind Advisory area that was inherited and
adjust from there through the day. Southerly winds of 15 to 25
mph are expected with gusts ranging from 40 to 50 mph.

Otherwise it looks like a warm day with highs into the 50's for
all locations, even with the melting snow. The snow is expected
to begin melting today with the warm wind. However it should be
a slow melt as it takes some time to increase the low level
moisture near the surface. As dewpoint temperatures increase
well above 32 degrees through the day into tonight we should
see the snow melt faster.

The cold front is expected to slow its eastward movement as it
moves into the central Great Lakes tonight. This is in response
to deepening low pressure that will move toward the region from
the Southern Plains. Strong warm advection and other lift
associated with the jet energy aloft will being to bring rain
northward along the cold front tonight. Believe the rain begins
to move into NW OH by late evening and then spreads eastward
through sunrise Thursday morning. Locally heavy rain spreads
across the region into Thursday afternoon as deepening low
pressure moves to southern Ohio by sunset Thursday. The very
warm and moist atmosphere should accelerate the snow melt
tonight into Thursday. This melting combined with the possibility
of 1 to 2 inches of rainfall are expected to cause significant
rises along area creeks and rivers. So for that reason the Flood
Watch continues. Lows tonight only dip into the 40's.

Temperatures on Friday will end up dictating what precipitation
type we see through the afternoon. The expectation is that the
cold front will be just west of the CWA through mid morning
Friday. This should allow all locations to warm into the 50's.
However as the cold front sags southeastward through the day we
expect to see temperatures drop in its wake. This frontal
boundary may be located near a line from the east end of Lake
Erie to near Cleveland to just southeast of Findlay by early
afternoon. There is uncertainty on where exactly this boundary
stalls with the approaching deepening area of low pressure. In
any event it looks as if NW OH will get into the cold air by mid
afternoon with a wintry mix of precipitation possible. Current
thoughts area that the amounts of sleet and/or freezing rain
look to be light but will need to be monitored closely for the
potential issuance of a Winter Weather Advisory. Watch closely
for changes as we become more confident in the location of this
cold front over the next 36 hours.

States will shift east and become neutral over the forecast area by
Friday morning. A surface cold front is expected to move east over
the local area by Thursday evening as a developing low pressure
system moves northeast from Oklahoma to southeast Ohio by Thursday
evening. Deep moisture from the Gulf of Mexico is progged to move
northeast into the forecast area along and ahead of the cold front
and also in association with the low pressure system. The combination
of the cold front and low pressure system along with the moisture
will bring a threat for widespread rain to the forecast area Thursday
night. As the surface low pressure system moves out to the northeast,
the cold front will slide gradually east into the area Thursday night.
Warm moist air overriding the cold air to the west of the cold frontal
boundary should produce a mixed bag of precipitation in the form of
sleet, freezing rain, and snow late Thursday night and then transition
from west to east to all snow after midnight. The storm system is
expected to move quickly northeast as the upper level trough rotates
fairly quickly east through the forecast area. Residual lake enhanced
transitioning to lake effect snow showers will take place across
the northeast portions of the area toward Friday morning and then
ending by Friday afternoon. Fair weather will return for the second
half of Friday as a broad upper level ridge and surface ridge build
east over the local area. The fair weather will be short lived as
a vigorous potent upper level trough and associated positive vorticity
maximum rotate through the Great Lakes. This upper level feature
will result in a fast moving Alberta Clipper storm system expected
to move through central Ontario, Canada late Friday night into
Saturday morning. Moisture associated with the low pressure system
will support the threat for a widespread area of light snow and
then transition to lake enhanced/lake effect Saturday morning.
The snow should end by afternoon as a large area of high pressure
builds east over the area into Saturday night. An overall upper
level pattern change is in the works for the latter part of the
weekend as the upper level flow becomes zonal across the Lower
48. After an initial cold period, temperatures will make another
quick rebound Saturday night as temperatures begin to warm
during the overnight period in return southerly flow.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Nearly zonal flow across the Lower 48 Sunday will begin to give way
to another upper level trough expected to dive into the Pacific
Northwest Monday.  Surface high pressure over the area will shift
well east of the East Coast during this period as well. Weak waves
of low pressure are expected to move east in the mean flow Monday
afternoon through Monday night but should remain fairly dry. A
change will take place Tuesday morning as a shortwave trough and
associated surface low pressure system move northeast across Ohio by
Tuesday.  This system will tap into the warm moist air to the south
and force it into the local area Tuesday. A cold front will move
east of the area Tuesday evening.  These features will bring a
period of warm air advection and a threat for showers across the
area once again. The surface low pulls out to the northeast Thursday
night but the air mass behind the system is not expected to be all
that cold.  This extended period will have some of the mildest
temperatures across the area in a while.

.AVIATION /12Z Wednesday THROUGH Sunday/...
VFR conditions expected through the day but ceilings will be
slowly lowering into tonight.

The main issue will be the development of gusty winds through
sunrise. Through 16Z or so most TAF sites will be dealing with
LLWS. Winds at the surface from the southeast and then from the
south/southwest around 50 knots at 2000 feet above ground level.
Believe the surface winds increase enough by mid/late morning
to remove the LLWS, especially because winds should be more
unidirection and gusts increase significantly at the surface.

Rain may reach into NW OH after 03Z THU but still think
conditions will be VFR. Rain spreads slowly eastward overnight
with rain likely near and west of a line from KERI to KCLE to
KMFD to KMNN by 12Z THU.

Outlook...Non-VFR expected Thursday in widespread rain. Non-VFR
continues as rain transitions to a wintry mix and snow Thursday
night followed by lake effect snow Friday. Non-VFR possible in light
snow across NE OH/NW PA Saturday.

.MARINE...
Weather and winds will be rather turbulent across Lake Erie over the
next couple days as a cold front moves east over the lake Thursday.
A low pressure system is expected to move northeast along the cold
front and remain just south of the lake Thursday night.  Winds are
expected to increase today through Thursday morning out of the south
and approach 30 knots on the lake.  As the frontal boundary slips
south across the lake, winds will increase a tad out of the north at
15 to 25 knots after a brief weakening along the boundary. A brief
period near 30 knots is possible Thursday night but dominant wind
speeds will be 15 to 25 knots into early Friday morning.  The low
pressure system will move quickly northeast of the area Friday and
winds on the lake should diminish fairly quickly as well. A ridge of
high pressure will build east over the lake Friday and winds will
shift back to a southwest direction and gradually increase through
Friday night. A deep Alberta Clipper storm system is expected to
move east across central Ontario, Canada Friday night forcing winds
back to around 30 knots again Saturday. The system will exit to the
east fairly quickly Saturday allowing winds to diminish Saturday
night and diminish. Another increase in the winds is expected Sunday
from the south on the back side of high pressure that should move
east of the lake over the weekend.
