.SYNOPSIS...
An upper level trough will move east of the area today before a
surface cold front slides east across the region tonight into
Friday. High pressure will build north into the Ohio Valley over
the weekend, with a warm front lifting across the lower Great
Lakes early next week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/...
We have transitioned to a northwest flow multiband situation
with decent snow showers still ongoing, primarily focused across
inland areas. Lakeshore areas can expect a break in activity
into this afternoon before the flow backs to westerly and a band
of snow reorganizes closer to Lake Erie. This will likely
develop as far west as Lake county, then lift northeast into
Ashtabula and Erie counties through the evening commute. This
will be enhanced by some increase in mid-level moisture as the
next shortwave trough aloft pivots across Lake Erie. The band is
expected to be transitory enough that most areas will only
receive 1 to locally 3 inches of additional snowfall along the
shoreline.
Previous discussion... Lake effect snow is becoming more
disorganized and cellular as flow shifts to the northwest and
precipitation moves inland. While scattered pockets of moderate
to heavy snow are expected across NE OH and NW PA during the
morning commute, the intense 1-2"/hr rates that occurred in
Ashtabula and Erie counties overnight are no longer anticipated.
Snow will continue to move inland this morning and current
radar trends suggest a lull in snow showers across NW PA and far
NE OH this morning into this afternoon before southwesterly
flow nudges lake effect precip north and increased convergence
allows a single band to reorganize over Lake Erie this evening.
Generally expecting maximum additional snowfall totals of 1 to 3
inches through the rest of today. Once the band organizes
offshore tonight, the main question will be how much precip
falls along the immediate lakeshore. Overall, not a ton of
changes were needed outside of adjusting PoPs based on latest
forecast and radar trends.
Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are likely
across the snowbelt during the day today, although locally
higher amounts are possible in interior Erie County PA before
the organized bands of snow shifts over Lake Erie. Precipitation
may hug the lakeshore tonight through the end of the near term
period and beyond, but the highest snowfall rates will remain
over the lake and well to the northeast in the Buffalo metro
area.
Periodic light snow showers/flurries are possible across the
remainder of the CWA through Friday, but do not anticipate more
than a few tenths of an inch of snow accumulation. Expect
today's highs to reach the low to mid 30s, with lows in the 20s.
Friday's highs will be a few degrees cooler in the upper 20s to
lower 30s. Wind chills will be in the teens and lower 20s for
the majority of the period.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
Southwesterly flow over the lake will continue Friday night into
Saturday with the band of snow out over the lake flowing to Buffalo.
The band may even shift north to Niagara Falls on Saturday. The next
upper level trough and its associated cold front move across the
region Saturday night with the lake effect band moving back to the
south. Current thinking is that we will have additional Winter
headlines Saturday night into Sunday with increased northwesterly
flow. This lake effect snow should persist into Sunday night but it
will be shifting back to the north out over the lake as the next
cold front moves into the central Great Lakes.
Cold temperatures continue through the short term with highs in the
mid 20s to mid 30's. Lows mostly in the teens, slightly warmer along
the lakeshore. Breezy to Windy conditions ill make it feel even
colder with wind chill temperatures in the single digits to
teens.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
A warm front lifts across the region early Monday with a warming
trend expected Monday through Thursday. Most locations should be dry
until Wednesday night into Thursday. Although confidence in this is
low at this point in time with all long range models hinting at a
different timing with an area of low pressure into the region.
Highs return to the 40's Monday through Thursday. A few spots
across NW OH may even touch the lower 50s Tuesday and Wednesday.
Lows in the mid 20's to mid 30's.

.AVIATION /12Z Thursday THROUGH Monday/...
Lake effect snow is moving inland, resulting in non-VFR
visibilities at KCLE and KYNG this morning. Snow has pushed
south of KERI, but additional snow showers are possible this
afternoon and evening as the precip lifts north. Otherwise,
periods of MVFR ceilings are expected at all terminals. A period
of VFR ceilings are likely this afternoon and evening before
MVFR ceilings return to most terminals overnight tonight.
Winds will be out of the west and southwest at 10 to 15 knots
through the period. Gusts of 20 to 25 knots are expected, with
the stronger gusts possible at KERI and KCLE.
Outlook...Non-VFR possible with lake effect snow showers and
clouds at KERI through the weekend, with the best chance Sunday
night.

.MARINE...
A surface trough remains over the lake through this evening. This
trough will assist with keeping winds mainly from a westerly
direction. However a land breeze this morning should help to shift
winds offshore into the intense lake effect band that stretches from
the central lake into Geneva on the Lake and Erie. The long fetch
across the eastern half of the lake and wind speeds everywhere in
the 15 to 25 knot range support a small craft advisory. The
uncertainty is how long to extend the small craft advisory. Will
leave current ending of 12Z Saturday in the forecast for now but
expect it will need to be extended. There is potential that winds
increase enough on Saturday to reach low end Gales. More on this
over the next 24 hours.
Will need to monitor water levels but the critical mark for safe
shipping is rather low at about 5 inches above low water datum.
Believe we wont need to worry about low water conditions until
Saturday.
