...FREEZE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 5 AM TO 9 AM EDT
WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 31 expected.

* WHERE...Portions of east central Georgia and central South 
  Carolina.

* WHEN...From 5 AM to 9 AM EDT Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other 
  sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor 
  plumbing.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent
freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should
be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have
in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-
ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

.SYNOPSIS...
A cold and dry air mass will build into the southeast from the
Plains over the next couple of days. Patchy frost is expected
tonight and the threat continues Wednesday night when more
widespread frost is expected. Temperatures will be below normal
through mid to late week then a warming trend is expected next
weekend.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Cold front has pushed off the Atlantic coast this morning. Deep
upper trough remains entrenched across the Great Lakes and is
expected to move little through the day. Upper level heights
over the eastern CONUS are about 3 standard deviations below
normal. Pressure ridge over the northern Plains will build south
and extend east into the southeast US. Area under general cold
air advection today with strongest advection late this afternoon
into the evening. The air mass is quite dry with dew points
expected to be in the 20s this afternoon. Winds will be
northwest with a few gusts to around 15 mph or a little higher
by late afternoon then diminish at sunset. Stayed close to the
NBM for max temps today with upper 50s north to low 60s
southeast. The mos has trended slightly cooler but appears a
little warmer than NBM. The 50th percentile NBM min temp
guidance tonight is generally in the mid to upper 30s across the
region. This is in line with mos. The surface pressure gradient
appears to relax but models do show some mixing in the boundary
layer that could keep temps up a bit and prevent frost. Although
it may be a close call, we have gone ahead and issued a frost
advisory for tonight as any sheltered areas will likely be quite
cold as 850mb temps expected below 0C across a good portion of
the area.

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
The air mass source region over the Plains builds east and the dry
and cool air mass will continue...although modest air mass
modification expected so max temps Wednesday should be slightly
warmer. Highs in the low 60s. The record high min is 62 at CAE and
63 at AGS. Maybe more favorable radiational cooling conditions
Wednesday night with a weaker surface pressure gradient although
there may be some high thin clouds ahead of a short wave trough
moving through the long wave trough into the southeast. The NBM low
temps are in the mid 30s...went slightly lower...closer to the 25th
percentile in the low to mid 30s and frost may be more widespread.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
A very deep upper level trough will remain over the Eastern U.S.
Thursday through Friday which will allow for below normal
temperatures to persist over The Midlands and CSRA. Highs will be in
the mid 60s to lower 70s with lows in the mid 30s to lower 40s.

High pressure aloft builds along the East Coast this weekend which
results in a significant warming trend. Highs will be 75 to 80 with
lows in the mid 40s to lower 50s. Medium range models hint at a
possible small coastal low pressure system Saturday through Sunday,
however any development should remain far enough offshore to keep a
dry forecast.

.AVIATION /12Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
VFR conditions will prevail the next 24 hours. Colder and much
drier air remains across the region behind a cold front that is
now well off the Atlantic Coast. Northwest winds 5 to 10 knots
through early morning then increase this afternoon with a few
gusts to around 15 knots. Fog not expected due to dry air mass.

EXTENDED AVIATION OUTLOOK...No significant impacts to aviation
expected due to much drier air behind the front. Localized shallow
ground fog possible at the fog prone sites AGS/OGB early Thursday
morning.
