.SYNOPSIS...
Lake snows will continue off Lake Ontario into Sunday morning, where
several inches of fresh snow will fall. An arctic cold front will
move southwards through our region Sunday afternoon. Snow squalls
will likely accompany this front with brief white outs possible.
Scattered lake snow showers will then be found over the western
counties in the wake of the front Sunday night with minor
accumulations.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
Mid-level warming has all but shut down Lake Erie with just a few
flurries remaining across WNY.

Off Lake Ontario...the same limitation (mid-level warming) will
likely occur but not enough to shut down all lake snows overnight.
Winter wx headlines are in place for this scenario east of Lake
Ontario where several inches of snow will be possible by mid Sunday
morning.

An arctic cold front will cross our region during the afternoon
Sunday. Strong low level forcing from the front will likely be
enough to be able to at least partially mix down winds form a 40kt
low level jet. This will to snow squalls with the passage, with
visibilities possibly being reduced to a few hundred feet (or
less) for a short time. It will not be out of the question that
some snow squall warnings will be needed. The highest risk for
snow squalls will be between 11 AM and 2 PM for the North
Country, and between 2 and 5 PM for the western counties.

Additional snow accumulations will range from 3 to 6 inches east
of Lake Ontario, where winter weather advisories for Jefferson,
Lewis and Oswego counties will be in place, to 1 to 3 inches
for the western counties.

In the wake of the arctic cold, a very cold northwesterly flow
Sunday night will support some nuisance lake snows south of Lake
Ontario. Mins will range from the minus single digits across the
North Country to the single digits abv zero for the western counties.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
High pressure moves overhead Monday and any snow showers will end in
the morning. Then mid-level warm air advection in advance of the
next system will lead to increasing cloud cover Monday night, and
possibly some flurries. Temperatures will remain below normal with
highs ranging from the teens to mid 20s on Monday. Good radiational
cooling conditions during the first half of the night east of Lake
Ontario will support lows around zero. Clouds will help keep low
temps in the teens across most of Western NY.

A shortwave and weak clipper low will move across the area on
Tuesday. Latest guidance supports increasing PoPs for Tuesday, with
most models showing at least some measurable precipitation with this
system. That said, amounts will be light with rain or snow showers
with any accumulation negligible. Southerly downslope flow will
support highs near 40 across the lake plains and Western Southern
Tier with highs in the lower 30s east of Lake Ontario. Not cold
enough aloft to support much of a lake response behind this system,
with precipitation ending as some light upslope enhanced snow
showers south of the lakes on Tuesday night.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Cold air advection behind Tuesday's clipper system will allow any
leftover rain/snow showers to change over to all snow on Wednesday,
though expect more dry time than precip during the day. Then, the
main axis of a broad upper level trough will swing through the
Great Lakes region Wednesday night through Thursday morning. This
will send a cold front through the region and bring another round
of more widespread snow showers.

Continued CAA behind the system may support some additional lake
effect snows on Thursday, which will gradually break up throughout
the day as high pressure builds over the Great Lakes region. Mostly
dry weather is then anticipated through Saturday, before the next
potential low pressure system moves in from the west Saturday night.

.AVIATION /06Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Lake snows will produce MVFR-IFR conditions NE of Lake Ontario at
KART and KGTB. Elsewhere, a mix MVFR-VFR will prevail tonight into
early Sunday.

Sunday afternoon, an arctic front pushing south across the forecast
area will produce a couple hours of IFR to LIFR vsbys in squally
snow showers.

 Outlook...

Monday...A few lake effect snow showers southeast of Lake Ontario
early, otherwise mainly VFR.
Tuesday...VFR early, then MVFR conditions in rain and snow showers
in the afternoon.
Wednesday...VFR to MVFR conditions in scattered snow showers.
Thursday...Mainly VFR.

.MARINE...
Fresh to occasionally strong westerlies overnight will strengthen
ahead of an arctic cold front on Sunday. This will lead to gale
force winds on most of Lake Ontario with high end small craft
advisories remaining in place on Lake Erie and for all of the
Niagara River.

Winds will dramatically decrease Sunday night and especially
Monday, as high pressure will move across the region.
