.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front with showers will finish moving through the area this
morning. Notably cooler air will move in behind the front and remain
through the rest of the week. Some showers will move back in tonight
through Wednesday night with some wet snow mixing in, especially at
higher elevations. A period of dry weather returns Thursday through
Saturday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Cold front has moved through the region early this morning. Band of
post-frontal showers will pass across the area early this morning,
mainly from the Genesee Valley eastward. Expect the showers to be
finished across eastern portions of the area by mid morning,
although a secondary low moving up from the Carolinas will stall the
progress of the front and could help the showers last a bit longer
than forecast, but likely no longer than noon time or so. Abundant
cloud cover should hold in areawide through the day. Current
temperatures in the upper 40s to mid 50s will move little during the
day today under cold advection.

A compact low currently seen on water vapor imagery dropping into
northwest Minnesota will push into the eastern Great Lakes later
tonight. Associated cold front will renew shower activity especially
across western New York by this evening, before most of the showers
focus east of Lake Erie aided by some lake enhancement. Arriving
colder air will help to mix in some wet snow, especially at higher
elevations with some light accumulation possible on elevated and
grassy surfaces.

&&

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...
Upper level trough axis along with corresponding mid-level low
located over northern New York and southern Ontario, Canada
Wednesday morning will be be responsible for a well developed
surface low and frontal features, where in fact the main cold front
will have already impacted the area earlier this week. However, the
surface low will have one more cold frontal boundary to pass across
the region Wednesday, shifting winds northwesterly and pushing a
much colder air airmass (around -10C at 850mb) the region Wednesday.
Overall this pattern will support lake enhanced showers across the
areas southeast of both lakes Wednesday morning. Across the higher
terrain, expect showers to primarily fall as snow, adding a few
extra tenths of snowfall early before diurnal and spring sun angles
have their way. Otherwise, the remainder of the area will see up to
a dusting. As the day progresses, lake enhanced snow/rain showers
will be confined southeast of both lakes Wednesday afternoon.

An uptick in activity will occur across the area east of Lake
Ontario late Wednesday afternoon/early Wednesday night as the upper
level trough axis passes overhead. Aforementioned upper level
features will pull east across New England, while ridging builds
across the upper Mid-West. Lack of upper level support along with
diurnal effects will help diminish shower activity off of both lakes
by Wednesday night.

As upper level ridging builds across the Mid West, corresponding
surface high pressure will push east across the Great Lakes
Wednesday night through Thursday night. Despite the dry quiescent
conditions, temperatures will continue to remain on the cool side as
upper level troughing persists aloft just to the east.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
An upper level ridge will lie across the Northern Plains and Upper
Great Lakes Friday, before building and pushing east towards the
area this weekend. Overall this pattern will support moderating
temperatures along with a prolonged period of dry weather.

However, attention turns toward the next upper/mid level trough over
the lee side of the Rockies Friday. This system will become a closed
low aloft and deepen Friday night and Saturday, overall supporting a
maturing surface cyclone over the Central Plains. As the pattern
shifts east towards the Great Lakes, associated fronts with the low
will advance northeast across the Ohio Valley towards New York State
Sunday night, before crossing the area Monday. Overall, expect
chances for rain showers to increase from southwest to northeast
Sunday night through Monday. Additionally, Monday will likely be the
warmest day of the period as the region will be on the backside of
the ridge axis and within a warm air advection regime.

.AVIATION /09Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Intermittent 1/2SM vsby expected at KBUF through about 12z as a
light moist flow persists off Lake Erie.

Widespread IFR cigs will be in place early this morning. These cigs
will rise to VFR levels around 12z in the far west, by about 15z in
the Finger Lakes region and during the course of the afternoon for
the Eastern Lake Ontario region.

Outlook...

Wednesday...VFR to MVFR. Chance of showers, mixed with snow across
higher terrain.
Thursday through Saturday...Mainly VFR.

northwest tonight through Wednesday. Small craft conditions will
develop on the lakes through this period. First on Lake Erie late
