.SYNOPSIS...
Arctic front dropping across the region will continue to produce
a few more bursts of moderate to heavy snow early this evening
Southern Tier to Finger Lakes. Gusty northwest winds will continue
to produce blowing snow through this evening especially near and
southeast of Lake Ontario. Light lake effect snow showers southeast
of the lakes tonight will end Monday morning.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/...
Composite lake effect/arctic front band of snow has dropped across
the region with stronger bands of snow along the boundary now
transitioning to less defined scattering of snow showers over
western NY to the Finger Lakes. Other scattered snow showers are
sliding across Lewis county. Into the evening, additional snow
accumulations will be minor with lack of organization and
persistence to the snow showers. Northwest winds gusting 30-40 mph
will produce areas of blowing snow near Lake Ontario shore and
across much of Oswego county. Elsewhere, winds are not as strong and
any blowing snow will be patchy and brief.

Expect limited lake effect snow to develop southeast of Lake Ontario
and Erie later this evening through early Monday morning in NW/NNW
flow. Inversion heights quickly lower and the airmass quickly dries
behind the arctic front that has moved through, so any additional
accumulations will be minor overnight through Monday morning with a
spotty 1-2" possible in persistent bands. Winds will quickly
diminish overnight, bringing an end to blowing and drifting snow.

Any remaining light lake effect snow will end Monday morning,
leaving dry weather for the rest of the day. Some breaks of sun will
develop for awhile in the morning and early afternoon before
mid/high clouds thicken ahead of an approaching warm front.

Finally, a very cold airmass will move into the region tonight and
Monday behind the arctic front. Lows late tonight will drop into the
lower teens on the lake plains and single digits inland, with single
digits below zero east of Lake Ontario. Wind chills will drop to
near -20F east of Lake Ontario where a Wind Chill Advisory is in
effect for late tonight through Monday morning. Highs Monday
afternoon will reach the mid 20s in most areas, teens for the North
Country.

&&

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
An elevated warm front will approach the region Monday night.
Moisture will increase as a 30kt low-level jet moves across the
region and light snow will begin to move into the North Country late
Monday night into Tuesday morning. Some flurries are possible
elsewhere Monday night as this feature moves through. The associated
area of low pressure will track across Lake Ontario and to the Saint
Lawrence Valley Tuesday. A southerly flow ahead of the advancing
cold front will allow surface temperatures to climb into the upper
30s to lower 40s across the region Tuesday. Mainly rain showers will
increase in coverage as a cold front tracks across the region
Tuesday. Colder temperatures will persist at higher elevations east
of Lake Ontario and snow showers are likely through the afternoon
with minor accumulations on the Tug Hill Tuesday.

Widespread rain and snow showers taper off to scattered snow showers
Tuesday night. 850mb temps only drop to about -9c across Lake
Ontario behind the system which isn't cold enough to support lake
effect however could result in some upsloping across higher terrain.
Temperatures will fall to the 20s across western NY to the teens
across the North Country.

Following a brief dry period Wednesday morning, another low pressure
system will track from the Northern Plains to the Great Lakes region
Wednesday. Some model disagreement on how strong this system will
be, but chances for snow showers will increase during the day
Wednesday. After this, 850mb temperatures plummet to around -19c by
Thursday. This combined with moisture from the system and associated
shortwave will support some lake effect snow southeast of Lake
Ontario. This appears underdone by lower resolution model guidance.
This won't be a major event, but a few inches aren't out of the
question from Monroe to Oswego counties. Otherwise temperatures
Thursday will be below normal with highs mainly in the 20s.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
An upper level ridge with surface high pressure building over the
Lower Great Lakes region will bring an end to any leftover lake
effect snow Thursday night. Cool NW flow will gradually weaken
through the night with WAA in the mid levels further inhibiting
mixing. With cold air still at the surface, expect a chilly night
across the area with lows in the teens and single digits. Dry
weather will then persist Friday into Saturday as high pressure
remains in control.

An area of strong low pressure then looks to traverse the Great
Lakes region Saturday night and Sunday. Though the details will be
sparse this far out into the forecast period, long range guidance
has been indicating widespread precip the last few runs as an
associated warm front lifts northward through the region. At this
point, precip type looks to be primarily in the form of rain, but
model trends will be monitored moving further into the week. Stay
tuned.

A southerly flow out ahead of the potential system will allow for a
warming trend, with temperatures climbing above normal through the
weekend.

.AVIATION /00Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Conditions at the terminals have improved since earlier this
afternoon. Still could be some brief snow showers across especially
ROC and JHW into the evening. These may produce IFR/LIFR VSBY for a
short time. Outside of the snow showers, expect a mix of VFR/MVFR
CIGS through this evening. It will remain windy through this evening
with gusts of 25-35 knots producing blowing snow and reduced VSBY at
times.

Light lake effect snow showers will develop southeast of Lake Erie
and Ontario with local MVFR/IFR conditions overnight through early
Monday morning. Lake effect will end by mid to late morning Monday,
leaving dry weather and VFR to prevail the rest of the day.

Outlook...

Tuesday...Areas of MVFR/brief IFR with a chance of snow showers,
mixed with rain at lower elevations.
Wednesday...VFR to MVFR conditions in scattered light snow showers.
Thursday...Local MVFR/IFR in lake effect snow showers southeast
of the lakes early, otherwise mainly VFR.
Friday...Mainly VFR.

.MARINE...
Marginal gale force winds will continue on Lake Ontario this
afternoon and evening, with west gales to 35 knots veering northwest
following the passage of an arctic cold front. Winds will steadily
diminish overnight. Small Craft Advisory conditions will continue on
Lake Erie through early this evening. Much lighter winds will return
Monday as surface high pressure settles over the eastern Great Lakes.

At 331 PM EST, an area of heavy snow was located along a line
extending from 6 miles north of Chaffee to near Dansville to
Sheldrake. Movement was southeast at 15 mph.

Locations impacted include...
Geneseo, Dansville, Letchworth State Park, Perry, Warsaw, Mount
Morris, Conesus, Arcade, Naples, Rushville, Houghton, Hemlock,
Portageville, Honeoye, Varysburg, Holland, Groveland, Springwater,
Sheldon and Canadice.

This includes Interstate 390 between exits 4 and 7.

The snow can accumulate at a rate of one inch per hour or more in
this area of heavy snow. Be prepared for hazardous driving
conditions. Consider delaying travel if you will be going through
this area of heavy snow.

Visibilities will briefly drop to below one quarter of a mile in
this area of heavy snow. If you are driving, slow down and be on
alert for other motorists. Low visibility shortens the amount of
time you have to react to situations.

Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be
prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra
time when traveling.

WYOMING...LIVINGSTON AND ALLEGANY COUNTIES...

An area of heavy snow with visibilities less than one-quarter mile
will slowly settle southward across Wyoming and Livingston County
toward Allegany county through 6 PM. The band of heaviest snow is
moving south at 10-15 mph. Expect a quick inch or two of snow
where the heavier snow occurs.

If you are traveling early this evening over this area, including
on Interstate 390 south of Geneseo, slow down and be on alert for
other motorists. Low visibility shortens the amount of time you
have to react to situations. Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in
winter weather situations. Be prepared for snow or ice covered
roads. Slow down and allow extra time when traveling.

At 620 PM EST, an area of heavy snow was located along a line
extending from near Wellsville to Jamestown West. Movement was
southeast at 15 mph.

Locations impacted include...
Olean, Salamanca, Wellsville, Allegany State Park, Alfred, Falconer,
Allegany, Cuba, Weston Mills, Frewsburg, St. Bonaventure,
Whitesville, Hinsdale, Friendship, Great Valley, Conewango, Scio,
Ellington, Carrollton and Randolph.

This includes Interstate 86 between exits 13 and 32.

The snow can accumulate at a rate of one inch per hour or more in
this area of heavy snow. Be prepared for hazardous driving
conditions. Consider delaying travel if you will be going through
this area of heavy snow.
