.SYNOPSIS...
A wave of low pressure tracking across Cape Cod will bring a period
of rain to the region this morning, then ending with gradual
clearing this afternoon from west to east. Behind the departing low,
colder and blustery Sunday night and Monday, as the area of low
pressure moves into the Canadian Maritimes and intensifies.
Continued cool Tuesday but with less wind, then another storm system
may bring accumulating snow to the distant interior Tuesday night
into Wednesday, with rain closer to the coast. Mainly dry and cool
weather returns for the end of the week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL MIDNIGHT TONIGHT/...
1230 PM Update...

Surface low pressure center is now just off the south coast of
Cape Cod. Heaviest rainfall across interior southern New England
has shifted southeast over the outer Cape. There are still a
couple of bands of light to moderate rainfall that will progress
northeast with this system as it departs over the Atlantic
waters. GOES16 visible satellite imagery is already showing
some clearing across western MA and CT. Expect this clearing to
gradually work its way eastward over the next 3 to 4 hours. Many
areas will likely see some breaks of sunshine before sunset.
Cold gusty WNW winds develop behind this system as we make hour
way into the evening hours.

.SHORT TERM /MIDNIGHT THROUGH 6 PM MONDAY/...
330 AM update...

* Dry but blustery and noticeably cooler tonight & Monday

Sunday night...

Dry but chilly & blustery NW flow into SNE tonight and Monday, in
response to trough amplification/deepening maritime low. One of the
colder nights in some time, with lows mainly 30-35, upper 20s
western MA. Blustery NW winds 10-20 mph, gusting up to 30 mph Cape
Cod and Islands, will make it feel colder with wind chills in the
20s.

Monday...

Cooler than normal weather persist into Monday, with highs only 45-
50, low 40s for the high terrain, about 5-10 degs cooler than
normal. Still blustery with WNW winds 10-20 mph, but easing late in
the day, as maritime low moves farther away and high pressure
advects into the area from the Great Lakes. Ample sunshine should
help offset the chilly and blustery conditions.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
330 AM update...

Highlights

* Dry and seasonably cool Tuesday as winds diminish

* Coastal low approaches Tuesday evening into Wednesday giving
  portions of the interior their first shot at accumulating snow

* Dry, blustery, and chilly temperatures return for the latter
  portion of the work week

Tuesday and Wednesday...

NW winds continue to diminish through Tuesday morning. Tuesday will
begin mostly sunny to partly cloudy before mid level moisture begins
to filter in ahead of our next coastal system. With dismally dry
dewpoints at the surface, it will take a considerable amount of time
for the column to saturday on Tuesday. Winds eventually switch to
the south which will continue to increase both dewpoints and cloud
cover as the low approaches. 00Z guidance has trended a bit faster
with the precip onset time, which now looks to be just before 00Z
Wednesday. P-Type will be heavily influenced by the timing of this
system given seasonably cold, dry air in place. On one hand, cooler
temps overnight would support snow across the higher terrain, but
the aforementioned dry air may delay the onset of precip more
than is being indicated by models.

Given we will not have a record cold airmass in place ahead of the
low and southerly flow will begin to advect above freezing 925/850mb
temperatures into the region, expecting that snow accumulations will
be restricted to western and central MA and the high elevations of
northern CT. Ensemble members cluster the low over Cape Cod and
Nantucket by mid day Wednesday which generally means the airmass
will be too warm for widespread snowfall in our area. This is
supported by both the GEFS and ECMWF ensemble members that pinpoint
the greatest accumulations well to our north over NH and ME.
Should the low continue to track father inland, so too will the
snow potential. In all, expecting about 0.5"-1.0" of QPF with
this system, most of which will fall between 12Z Wednesday and
00Z Thursday; coinciding with daytime heating hours. Given the
uncertainty in the timing of the storm and the exact track of
the low, didn't stray from the NBM with this update, but still
expecting a modest first accumulating snow of the season north
and west of Worcester, with the "highest", emphasis on the
quotes, totals north of the Rte 2 corridor. Some flakes my fly
south and east of I-95 overnight, but will quickly transition to
rain as warm air continues to advect aloft.

Given the forecasted low position, expecting a decent temperature
gradient on Wednesday, which will be our warmest day for foreseeable
future. Surging dewpoints will have portions of Cape Cod making a
run for 60F. Temps will drop off quickly the further north and
west you go, but daytime highs are expected to be near 40 in the
far northwest reaches of the CWA.

Thursday through Saturday

Coastal low will strengthen as it lifts into the Gulf of Maine by
00Z Thursday bringing precip to an end quickly around this time.
While precipitation will be coming an end, expecting W/NW winds to
pick up for Thursday given the tightening gradient and 20-25kt winds
aloft. Zonal mid level flow flow develops as a broad trough sets up
from the Great Lakes to the Northeast. A few shortwaves circulating
around the trough may bring surges of even chillier air to the
region, but with 925mb temperatures ranging between -7C and -3C,
expecting widespread highs in the upper 30s and mid 40s to round out
the week. Overnight lows will drop below freezing away from the
coast each night as dewpoints in the 20s advect back into the
region.

kt across Cape Cod and Islands.

VFR and dry weather continues. Gusty NW winds 10-20 kt, up to 25
