.SYNOPSIS...

Mild conditions continue on Friday along with a few lingering
showers, but a washout is not expected. Trending mainly dry for
the upcoming weekend, with Saturday the cooler of the two days.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...

2 AM Update...

The earlier heavy showers and embedded t-storms that brought
the strong gusty winds have moved east of the region. This a
result of the pre-frontal trough and core of the strong LLJ
moving away from our region. However, the actual surface cold
front was still west of the region. Therefore, enough forcing
will remain in place for scattered showers at times along with
rather mild temperatures in the 50s to near 60 through daybreak.
Portions of western MA and northern CT will see temps drop a
bit toward daybreak as the cold front crosses the region.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH 6 PM SATURDAY/...

A surface cold front will take a little more time to move out of
our region Friday. Then there will be a cold pool aloft to
contend with. Thus, expecting some lingering showers, especially
during the morning. Can see some showers lingering into the
afternoon even towards the east coast. Drier conditions develop
late Friday into Friday night. Above normal temperatures Friday,
trend closer to normal low temperatures Friday night.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...

Highlights:

* Sunny and dry, but blustery and seasonable Sat. Pick of the
  weekend. Possible fire weather concerns.

* Weakening frontal system brings clouds and light rains Sunday.
  Amounts light.

* Dry weather returns Monday, with increasing clouds Mon night into
  Tues. Seasonable temps.

* Unsettled midweek with good chances for rains around Wed but
  details unclear.

Details:

Saturday:

Mid level ridge amplifies over NY and western New England on
Sat, with sfc ridging to our SSW and a decent NW gradient flow
that will weaken moving into the aftn. Overall full sun and very
dry air mass overhead. Seasonable temperatures with NW gusts
20-25 mph, gusts which will tend to weaken moving into the aftn
as the gradient slackens.

While it is overall a pleasant day the pick of the weekend
weather-wise, the main concern is for fire weather. Model
soundings show a well mixed PBL with low-dewpoint mixing during
the mid- AM to mid- aftn hrs. With highs in the upper 40s to
mid/upper 50s and utilizing NAM-based dewpoints vs NBM, lowest
RH's progged in the low to mid 20s percent across the interior
and especially northern and western MA and areas downwind of the
Berkshires/Litchfield Hills. Could see a need for fire weather
headlines (e.g. an SPS) depending on state fire weather partner
input, though mitigating factors to some extent could be that
the wind gusts tend to ease by the aftn and we'll be a day
removed from light rains.

For the evening, good radiational cooling initially, then will
see increasing clouds W to E late ahead of a weak frontal system
for Sunday. Lows mainly in the 30s.

Sunday:

Deamplifying mid-level shortwave from the eastern Great
Lakes/Allegheny Mtns vicinity and associated sfc frontal
occlusion spreads a band of light rains eastward, with best
chances mainly across the southern two-thirds of the forecast
area. Rain looks to be on the light side, tending to be focused
during the mid-AM to the early to mid-aftn. However there is a
cooler pocket of air aloft that could allow for some graupel in
stronger showers but more likely to feature light rains. Worth
noting that the ECWMF is somewhat stronger and wetter than the
NAM, GFS and the Canadian GEM. It remains cloudy and still
unsettled by evening with lesser/spotty chances for showers
underneath an upper trough. Total precip generally less than a
tenth of an inch, but still cloudy weather all-in-all with highs
in the 40s to lower 50s, lows in the 30s.

Monday into Tuesday:

Dry weather returns for Monday with weak surface ridging and
rising heights aloft. Mostly sunny conditions with highs in the
upper 40s to mid 50s. A weak mid-level shortwave disturbance
tries to slip into SNE from the Gt Lakes/western-central NY
later Monday night into Tuesday, but the shortwave
deamplifies/shears out by the time it skirts into the NYC metro
area and into our southern waters by Tuesday, and may just
feature an increase in cloud cover with more to the south and a
little less to the north. Expect continued generally seasonable
highs and lows for early April.

Tuesday Night into Wednesday Night:

Uncertainty then increases significantly in this portion of the
forecast, owing to an unclear and complex evolution of a frontal
system coming out of the central Plains. A key difference across
the global models is the initial strength of the shortwave
disturbance aloft associated with the frontal system. GFS and
Canadian GEM are significantly stronger than the ECMWF and bring
substantially more precip for SNE centered around Wed/Wed night
than the weaker and more subdued ECMWF. This does look to be the
next best significant precip maker for SNE, but too much
uncertainty in solutions to provide any clarity on details at
this point. PoPs were in the solid chance to lower end Likely
range, though could be underdone if the GFS/Canadian idea proves
closer to correct. Temps around or slightly cooler than normal.

.AVIATION /06Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...

Low - less than 30 percent.
Medium - 30 to 60 percent.
High - greater than 60 percent.

06z TAF Update:

Today...Moderate Confidence. A wide variety of conditions in
place very early this morning. The overall trend will be for
MVFR-IFR conditions to improve to mainly VFR thresholds by
afternoon in most locations northwest of the Cape/Islands.
However, localized MVFR conditions will remain possible at times
through the afternoon in all locations. Scattered showers will
also impact the region at times through the afternoon. SW winds
shift to the W at 10 to 20 knots this afternoon with gusts
between 25 and 30 knots developing.

Tonight...High Confidence. VFR with WNW wind gusts of 25 to 30
knots and briefly up to 35 knots in parts of the high terrain
and near the coast.

Saturday...High Confidence. VFR with WNW of 20 to 30 knots in
the morning diminishing during the afternoon.

While there will be an inversion in place, there is enough

New England coastal waters for southwest gusts of 30 to 40 kt.
Very rough seas are also expected to develop with a period of
widespread showers this evening, and the risk for a few
embedded thunderstorms.

Friday and Friday night...High Confidence. Wind gusts will have
diminished toward daybreak as low level jet will have shifted
well east of the region. As a surface cold front crosses the
waters Friday morning, westerly wind gusts of 20 to 30 kt will
develop Friday afternoon. Small Craft Advisory headlines for
winds and seas will be needed for most of our waters into Friday
night.

At 949 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Torrington, moving northeast at 60 mph.

HAZARD...Winds in excess of 40 mph. Brief heavy rainfall that may
         result in nuisance poor drainage street flooding.
