Area forecast discussion, Apr 5, 2:44 PM MDT, 3 hours 34 minutes before
Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Bismarck ND
344 PM CDT Tue Apr 5 2022

.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Wednesday)
Issued at 342 PM CDT Tue Apr 5 2022

An upper level low over North Dakota has brought precipitation
into the region. Precipitation is expected to persist through
the afternoon as wrap around from the upper low creeps in the
northwestern North Dakota. Majority of the precip will fall as
rain transitioning to snow by late tonight and early tomorrow
morning. However, snow accumulations are forecast to remain light.
Precip is expected to move out of the area by late Wednesday as
wrap around associated with the upper low moves east. A tight
pressure gradient will continue to usher in high winds across the
region this afternoon through this evening. Therefore, a High
Warning remains in effect for southwestern North Dakota and a Wind
Advisory for South Central North Dakota. Tomorrow, the
aforementioned low will move over Minnesota placing the region in
northerly flow aloft with a jet speed max over the eastern portion
of the state. Therefore, high winds will continue across
southeastern North Dakota prompting a High Wind Watch for
tomorrow. High winds and blowing snow could also temporarily
reduce visibilities. Temperatures are forecast to drop 5 to 10
degrees below normal tomorrow as the cooler air moves in from the
Canada. The low begins to move out of the region in the long term.

.LONG TERM...(Wednesday night through Tuesday)
Issued at 342 PM CDT Tue Apr 5 2022

Thursday, an upper low over the Great Lakes will bring northerly
flow into the region while a ridge will build over Western CONUS.
The western periphery of the ridge begins to move into the area
by Friday bringing back warm temperatures to the region and light
winds. Saturday is forecast to be the warmest day as temperatures
could climb into the 50s and low 60s with breezy southerly winds.
A cold front will move through the region Saturday bringing in
possible showers across the state. A trough east of the Canadian
Rockies is going to dive into the Northern Rockies Sunday bringing
changes into the region. A troughing pattern is going to continue
across the intermountain West through next week bringing multiple
shortwaves and below normal temperatures.
