High Impact Weather Potential: Generally minor snow accumulation and
freezing drizzle tonight leading some hazardous travel.

Pattern Synopsis/Forecast: Mid-level ridge axis and sprawling
surface high pressure now centered off to our east this afternoon.
Upstream troughing across central Canada/northern plains shifts east
across northern Ontario tonight. Attendant surface low out ahead of
this trough will trek northeast across northern Ontario tonight to
near James Bay by 12z Sunday, with an associated cold front sweeping
northwest to southeast across northern Michigan after midnight.

Primary Forecast Concerns: Light snow/freezing drizzle potential.
Increasing over-lake instability across Lake Superior late tonight
leading to lake effect snow across northern Chippewa County.

Heading into this evening/overnight, the primary focus revolves
around increased light precipitation potential ahead of the
aforementioned cold front progged to cross northern Michigan
northwest to southeast overnight. The primary moisture axis to our
south is expected to remain across the Ohio Valley into far southern
MI with the greatest mid-level support detached well to our
northwest. What low-level moisture is able to pool along/ahead of
the incoming front is likely to remain rather shallow, likely not
extending into the ice activation layer. This will continue to
support the potential for freezing drizzle to mix in with light
snow. While any snow amounts should be rather minimal, a coating to
a tenth of an inch of ice can't be ruled out, with the higher of
those amounts anticipated to be west of US-131 across the five
southwestern counties. Opted for a winter weather advisory in those
counties for this evening into tonight. Some light icing possible
outside of the advisory as well.

Freezing drizzle chances slowly diminish post frontal passage as the
entire column cools and over-lake instability begins to increase,
especially across Lake Superior. By 12z Sunday, H8 temps over Lake
Superior expected to range from -19 to -16 C with delta Ts of 20+
C certainly supportive of increasing lake effect snow potential.
Given predominately west-northwest flow by early Sunday morning,
expecting the heaviest snow to be targeting far northern Chippewa
County with up to half an inch or so off accumulation through 12z.
In coordination with MQT, will issue a long duration winter storm
warning for northern Chippewa County as more accumulation, wind
and cold wind chills are on tap...discussed further below.

Otherwise, breezy south winds this afternoon are aiding to boost our
temperatures into the 20s, although won't feel quite that "warm"
given wind chills still in the upper single digits to low teens.
Winds veer more west-northwesterly post frontal passage tonight,
while remaining breezy. Overnight lows ranging from the upper
teens to low 20s, but again wind chills largely in the teens for
most.

.SHORT TERM...(Sunday through Tuesday)

High Impact Weather Potential...Lake effect snow accumulations
possible Sunday and Monday with gusty winds and blowing snow.

Winds will veer to more west-northwesterly behind the departing
system mentioned in the previous forecast period. Cold 850mb
temperatures nearing -20 to -25C and wrap around moisture will
result in lake effect/enhanced snows and accumulations Sunday
through Monday night. Winds will veer to northwesterly throughout
Sunday night with 850mb temperatures cooling even further...nearing
-26C. This along with another trough of low pressure associated with
the aforementioned low pressure system as it continues to move north-
northeasterly moves through northern Michigan...along with
accompanying deeper moisture...will continue to produce lake effect
snow showers throughout northern Michigan Sunday night through
Monday. These areas Sunday and Monday may see bands that stay
overhead for several hours and produce heavy snow with reduced
visibilities and several inches of accumulation. CIPS analogues
continue to show some decent accumulations with the current forecast
setup...with 8-12"+ possible within a 48-72 hr period. Will
definitely be the concern to watch for the next few days. Any
lingering lake effect will diminish Tuesday as high pressure from
the Mid-Mississippi Valley builds into the Great Lakes region with
anti-cyclonic flow and "drier" air. Winds then back to southwesterly
as said high pressure dives to the southeastern CONUS. There will be
a narrow band of some WAA precip associated with a weak area of low
pressure over Alberta. At this time it looks like just some nuisance
flurries/light snow showers for a few hours throughout Tuesday. With
winds gusting from 25-35 mph and small snowflake size...can expect
blowing snow to greatly reduce visibility and produce drifting along
roadways.

Daytime temperatures Sunday morning will begin around 20 degrees to
the mid 20s and drop throughout the day...into the teens. Highs
Monday will only be in the single digits to low 10s...with wind
chills nearing -10F throughout the entire day. The southwesterly
winds Tuesday will bring temperatures up some, but still only to the
upper teens to mid 20s with wind chills in the single digits.

High Impact Weather Potential...Another storm system that may
produce some snow and/or a mix may impact northern Michigan at the
end of the work week and into the weekend.

Pattern Synopsis/Forecast...Broad long wave trough will remain over
the Great Lakes region with a few weak disturbances moving through
the area throughout the long term period. Models are in fairly good
agreement of the next bigger storm system to begin impacting
northern Michigan at the end of the work week and into the weekend.

Temperatures will moderate into the 30s come Wednesday as flow
becomes more west-southwesterly wrapping around a surface high over
the southeastern CONUS. At this time temperatures appear to remain
in the mid 20s to low 30s throughout the forecast period.

VFR conditions early this afternoon expected to give way to MVFR cigs
this evening into the overnight hours ahead a cold front that's
