...Drifting Possible...

High Impact Weather Potential...Minimal

Pattern Synopsis/Forecast/Concerns...The SW wind is evident as the
snow bands that were NW and WNW this morning are being pushed north.
However, what is really of note is the clearing in N/C Lake Michigan
and southern Lake Superior as the warmer/drier air pushing into the
Upper Great Lakes. The lower/Mid-level band of clouds near Manistee,
Cadillac and Frankfort, is along the warm front, but the moisture
looks pretty limited so nothing seems to be falling out of them.
Models still have some sort of snow/precipitation that would from
the limited SW flow up the Lake Michigan shore into E Upper. So far,
nothing looks (at least on satellite) like it is forming at the
moment, but there is still a chance, as the models are showing -7c
at 850 mb and the sfc temperature of N Lake Michigan is +9c, or
warmer. The cutoff would be around -4c or so, which is expected
sometime overnight. So the idea is that the snow would taper off and
end, except near ANJ.

High Impact Weather Potential: Low for now.

Pattern Synopsis:

Weak ridging will slide east of the region as a potent shortwave
punches across the upper Great Lakes on Monday. Strong forcing aloft
will support a cyclone over Hudson Bay that looks to pivot east
through the first half of the week. An attendant cold front
extending southward from the system is expected to slide across
northern Michigan on Monday as well with high pressure building in
for the remainder of the period.

Forecast Details:

While heavy lake effect snow chances end this weekend, northern
Michigan may still experience some winter weather impacts early this
week. Low-level winds will gradually turn from SW to NW on Monday as
the diffuse front swings through, bringing the chance for light snow
to eastern upper. Any accumulations are anticipated to be less than
1". The forecast for northern lower is a little more uncertain.
Forecast soundings display shallow moisture that will struggle to
extend to -10C. With these temperatures aloft, there is a chance ice
crystals may not form and some areas may experience freezing drizzle
at times. The best chance for any freezing drizzle will be with any
initial lake-induced activity Monday morning/early afternoon with
less impressive saturation depth in place. That being said, the
dominant p-type through Monday is anticipated to be light snow. Wind
gusts of 20-30+ mph may also lead to blowing snow across open areas
of northern Michigan into Monday afternoon before winds begin to die
down and temperatures warm some to help compact freshly fallen
fluffy snow.

While current confidence is not high, there is also a slight chance
for freezing rain across portions of the eastern upper peninsula
Tuesday morning as southwest winds may help induce additional precip
across this area. Forecast soundings for this period also show low-
level saturation struggling to extend to sufficient depth to be
confidence in an all-snow forecast. Light snow is still expected to
be the dominant precip type before temperatures warm above freezing.
Otherwise, high temperatures look to gradually warm through the
first half of the week with highs reaching into the upper 30s and
low 40s by Wednesday with partly sunny skies.

High Impact Weather Potential: Low for now. Monitoring active
weather late this week.

Ridging will continue to slide over the Great Lakes through the
middle of the week as troughing digs and amplifies across the center
of the country. This wave will provide forcing aloft to support a
weak cyclone that looks to trek across the region in the
Thanksgiving/Friday timeframe. While there is still uncertainty in
the evolution of these features and impacts, current confidence at
this time is that rain will be the primary precip type on
Thanksgiving before chances for snow to mix in at times arrives
Friday morning. Additional precip chances may linger into the
weekend. Highs in the upper 30s and low 40s are expected through the
period as lows dip below freezing at night.

The lake effect snow bands, which has been the main issue of the
forecast the last few days are moving northward as the warm, drier
air is pushing the bands out. TVC and MBL have some CIGs in the
MVFR category, but we are seeing VFR appear to the southwest, and
it won't be long for VFR CIGS and VSBYs to get into the airfields.

Tonight through Tuesday...As the warm front moves through the Upper
Great Lakes this evening the winds will back toward the SW and
increase tonight. Gales are expected across the east half of Lake
Michigan through about 15z/Mon. Lake Huron looks like its wind gusts
start around 00z/Mon, and continue through Monday as well. High
pressure then builds into the Upper Great Lakes Monday and remains
through Tuesday, allowing the winds to diminish below small craft
criteria through Tuesday afternoon.
