Pattern Synopsis/Forecast: Early this afternoon, upper troughing
continues to depart downstream across eastern Canada and the eastern
seaboard. This will slowly be replaced locally by mid-upper ridging
that's expected to become centered overhead tonight. At the surface,
weak bubble of high pressure that resided over the region earlier
this morning has now been absorbed into broader high pressure over
the east coast. As a result, return flow begins to ramp up tonight
between that high pressure to our east and strengthening low
pressure upstream; however, our airmass locally will continue to be
a dry one with any deeper moisture remaining across the mid-
Mississippi Valley.
Primary Forecast Concerns: Temperature trends. Patchy fog tonight?
Lots of sunshine out there this afternoon with temperatures topping
out largely in the 50s over the next couple of hours. Some low 60s
not out of the question across southern locales. Conditions remain
status quo into tonight with mainly clear skies. Light/variable
winds expected after sunset, and while winds remain light through
the duration of the overnight period, a more southerly component is
expected to prevail by the pre-dawn hours Tuesday signifying the
beginning of a warmer Tuesday. Some patchy fog possible tonight,
mainly inland areas with lows spanning the 30s for most.

High Impact Weather Potential...Minimal.
Pattern Synopsis/Forecast and Possible Impacts...Tuesday, the sfc
high begins to move to the east and we get into the return flow
between the sunshine and the southwest winds temperatures are
expected to push up into the 70s. However, there is a cost to this.
The 500 mb shortwave in the Canada begins to dig into the N Plains
and cold front begins to move into the Upper Mississippi Valley.
Showers and thunderstorms begin to form on the front, and move into
the Upper Great Lakes by 00z/Wed. Tuesday night, the showers turn to
periods of rain as the warm front forms and moves through the lower
peninsula overnight. Wednesday, Showers and thunderstorms as the
cold front moves through the region during the day. Wednesday night,
rain showers continue through the nigh as the sfc low/cold front
moves through the region by 12z/Thu, and the 500 mb trough continues
to dig into the Upper Great Lakes Thursday morning. Thursday, Rain
showers continue as the 500 mb trough remains over the region, and
the 850 mb temperatures drop to -3c. Not cold enough to snow, but
cold enough to keep the lake effect rain going.

.LONG TERM...(Thursday night through Monday)

High Impact Weather Potential...Minimal.
Thursday night, rain showers continue, as the 500 mb low
continues to drop into Lake Superior. 850 mb temperatures don't
get cold enough to snow at the lake shore overnight, but it is
possible that the inland highland could see snow, well a mix as
the sfc temperatures fall to around freezing. Friday, The 500 mb
low dips into Lake Superior, and then goes north Friday night. Dry
air begins to push into the region by early Saturday morning,
helping to get the precipitation out of there. Also the models are
warming up at 850 mb (above 0c). Saturday, the 500 mb low moves
east, and a cold front moves through the forecast area. This kicks
off another round of rain showers according to the ECMWF, while
the GFS is drying out. ECMWF begins to dry out Saturday night.
Sunday, ECMWF has another shortwave 500 mb trough that pushes into
the region by Sunday afternoon. While the GFS is dry. Both of
these models have been flipping back and forth over the last few
runs here. The 850 mb temperatures have moderated quite a bit so
will leave the NBM precipitation in for the mix overnight, but
that might be pushing int if the latest thermal patterns remain.
HOwever, by Monday morning, classic NW to NNW flow lake effect
rain event, with snow mixed in. The new NBM shows a mix of
rain/snow/zr. Think that the ZR is a little much, as these early
lake effect events tend to be a mix of rain/snow or all snow.

midday Tuesday at MBL/TVC/PLN.

of marine concerns. As high pressure shifts farther east, southerly

potential Tuesday night into Wednesday, especially across northern
Lake Michigan.
