High pressure remains centered over the southeast states through
Saturday. A strong cold front crosses the area Saturday night
into Sunday. Low pressure tracks along the front before pushing
offshore late Sunday into Sunday night. High pressure builds
into the region early next week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...

High pres off the se coast along with a S wind at 5-10 mph keeps
it rather mild. Mstly clr skies overnight except for some incrg
high level clouds across the nw after midnite. Lows in the 40s.
PVS DSCN:
Quiet conditions continue during the day Sat, though as the
front begins to push into NW sections of the CWA we will see
clouds increase at least for the northern areas by late morning
and early aftn. One more mild day is expected for Saturday with
high temperatures 65-70F across southern VA and NE NC where it
will remain mostly sunny through most of the day, with 60-65F
farther N where skies become partly to mostly cloudy by mid-late
aftn.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
As of 330 PM EST Friday...
By Sat evening, the cold front will initially be stalling across
the local area as it becomes nearly parallel to the SW flow
aloft. The latest 12Z/11 models all continue to forecast sfc low
pressure developing along the boundary (associated w/ RRQ
forcing from the 200-300mb jet) Sat evening. This pushes off
the coast by Sun morning and will make for a rather dramatic
change in the sensible WX overnight into early Sunday in
response to the tightening baroclinic zone along the boundary.
This area of frontogenesis looks to be the strongest Sun
morning before weakening by Sun aftn/evening as the coastal low
then becomes the primary system. The entire system still
appears to be fairly progressive and somewhat disorganized as
upper phasing can never really occur until the system is well
offshore. For the deterministic snowfall forecast, we continue
to forecast highest amts (1-2") across the NW portion of the CWA
from Farmville to Caroline Co., buffered by amount of up to 1"
for most of the RIC metro, and only a trace to a few tenths of
an inch of snow for SE VA and NE NC. Latest 12Z/11 snow
probabilities from the GEFS, EPS, GEPS, NBM are similar to
previous runs w/ the GFS/GEFS continuing as the only model to
really show much chance for 3" of snow anywhere in the CWA (even
it is only about 30-40% across the NW). With temperatures
marginal in the low- mid 30s, snow rates not being heavy at all,
and very warm temperatures coming into the event, am expecting
much of the accumulation to stay on grassy surfaces although
some untreated roads may become slippery Sunday morning.
Although some light precipitation will continue through the
afternoon Sunday, with lack of significant low level cold advection
and weak precip rates, would expect that temps will stay at or above
freezing which could allow a rain/snow mix through the afternoon
with little additional accumulation.
The system stays fairly progressive and generally moves out by
Sunday evening. Have kept some low chance PoPs across the east
on Sunday evening and a 20% chc across south central VA w/ the
upper trough between 06-12Z/Mon. Overall though, it will simply
become cold Sun night with the 1030mb high building in from the
northwest. Lows Sun night in the teens far NW with 20s
elsewhere.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 345 AM EST Friday....
Generally quiet conditions are anticipated next week as strong sfc
high pressure builds into the local area as the low pressure
system pushes well out to sea. Cold on Monday though with highs
only ranging from the lower 30s on the MD eastern shore to the
lower 40s over south central VA and interior NE NC. Cold Mon
night with lows in the teens and 20s. The high will shift
offshore later Tue into Wed. Dry and mostly sunny w/ moderating
temperatures, high in the mid 40s to lower 50s Tuesday, lows in
the 20s and 30s Tue night, with highs in the 50s to lower 60s
Wed. The latest 12Z/11 models suggest a fairly strong low
pressure system over the plains by Thu. This will give much of
the east coast broad S-SW flow with temps well into the 60s by
Thursday. Best rain chances will likely hold off until the
Thursday night into Friday timeframe as the front approaches and
crosses the region. Temperatures look to remain mild Fri, then
turn cooler behind the front into next weekend.

.AVIATION /06Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 1240 AM EST Saturday...
VFR conditions will continue through the 06z TAF period. Mostly
clear skies outside of FEW-SCT high clouds through the early morning
hours into this afternoon. LLWS is expected at RIC/SBY/PHF from now
through ~12Z. Winds shift to the SW to WSW by late Sat morning into
early aftn. Some SCT-BKN clouds are likely to spread in from the NW
late in the period, but ceilings remain VFR. A cold front drops
through the area late in the period with winds becoming NNE in its
wake.
Outlook: A period of light rain transitioning to light snow (or a
rain/snow mix) will likely yield a period of sub-VFR conditions from
late tonight through Sunday evening. Mainly VFR conditions return by
Sun night and are expected to continue through the middle of next
week.

w/ SSW winds 10-20 kt. No headlines needed attm. A cold front
crosses the local waters N-S this evening/early tonight w/

speeds to 15-25 kt after midnight tonight and continuing through
Sun night. SCAs will be raised w/ this package. Winds to remain
elevated while becoming NW through Mon morning before waning
thereafter Mon afternoon/night. Waves 1-3 ft...seas 2-4 ft
today/this evening...then waves 2-4 ft and seas 4-7 ft (by) late
