.SHORT TERM...A gale force low lies over the northern gulf. The
assoc occluded front passed overnight with a wind shift to the
S-SW, widespread strong winds (very windy at Skagway), warming
temperatures, and heavy rain. Snow levels rose above 1000 feet
across the north and to 4000 feet over the south. Behind this
front, winds will slowly ease through the day and precip will be
more showery in nature. Tonight, a trough of low pressure will
pass over the region (SW to NE), with a renewed round of showers.
Some showers will again be moderate to heavy at times with 24hr
QPF expected to be around 1-2 inches, which could be another
record breaker for Juneau. Winds with the trough will fluctuate
from SE to SW again with a surge of small craft southerlies for
some of the inside waters by early Monday morning.

After the trough passes there will be a building ridge and temps
cooling aloft. While showers will be diminishing, those cooler
temps could be enough for some mixing. Surface temperatures should
remain largely above freezing, so not expecting much accumulation.
The next front will be approaching for Monday night with another
round of non-diurnal warming temps, so some mixing at the
beginning of that front should change to rain below 500 feet.
Winds over the outside waters will increase to gale force with the
Monday night front as well, followed by another wind shift to the
SW late in the night.

.LONG TERM.../Tuesday through Thursday Night/ An active weather
pattern is in store during the mid range forecast period.
Conditions still look on track to be warmer and wetter than normal
for the foreseeable future. Multiple fronts will take aim on the
region over the course of the week. IVT anomalies over the course
of the week are consistently above +3 and even go above +5
Wednesday into Thursday. This should bring some pretty decent
rains to the panhandle. Given that many areas will already be
fairly well saturated from the past week's dense snowfall and the
subsequent rain from the weekend, ponding of water in poor
drainage areas should already be in progress by the start of the
forecast period. Expect that these conditions will continue
throughout the week and potential impacts on area waterways will
need to be monitored for any response. With each front that moves
into the region, gale force winds can be expected in the Gulf.
Small craft advisory winds may sneak into some ocean entrances,
but for the most part, winds through the inner channels look to
remain below advisory level.
