.SYNOPSIS...
Snow will continue to diminish across the Interior through the
afternoon and any warnings and advisories have been cancelled.
Temperatures over northern Alaska will be cooling today and into
early next week with near normal to below normal temperatures are
expected. A low pressure system and associated frontal boundary
will bring heavy snow over most of the west coast with blizzard
conditions across the Bering Strait and southern Seward Peninsula
Saturday into Sunday. The heaviest snow expected over the Seward
Peninsula and Nulato Hills. Southeast winds of 30 to 45 mph with
gusts to 60 mph possible through the Bering and along the Yukon
Delta coast. The potential for significant snow for the Central
and Southern Interior Monday into Tuesday.

.DISCUSSION...

Aloft...At 500 mb, A shortwave over the Interior will push
to the ALCAN border by Friday afternoon then ridging builds over
the State on Saturday. A deep trough will develop over the west
coast Friday through Sunday. Moist southwestly flow will set up
over the Interior Monday and Tuesday. Troughing will set up over
the west coast for much of the week.

Surface...High pressure will build over southwest Alaska and
spread over the Interior Friday. A 1009 mb low will move to the
Bering Strait Friday morning and to Kotzebue Sound at 1012 mb
Friday night. This will bring light snow from Unalakleet north to
Point Hope Friday and Saturday morning. A very strong 976 mb low
will move into the Western Bering Sea on Friday afternoon and
bring snow and blowing snow to the West Coast by Saturday
morning. The low will move to the Bering Strait at 977 mb by 4am
Sunday and to Wrangel Island at 976 mb by 10pm Sunday. High
pressure over the Copper Basin will set up a 6 mb pressure
gradient across the Alaska Range Saturday night that will slowly
weaken through Sunday. A 972 mb low will move to near Kodiak by
4am Monday with weak low pressure spreading north into the Central
Interior.

North Slope and Brooks Range...A low moving west to east across
the Arctic Coast will bring light snow to areas of the coast
through tonight as well as southwest winds 15 to 20 mph. Winds
Saturday through Monday will be mainly southerly and offshore at
15 mph or less, except through Brooks Range Passes where south
winds gusting to 35 mph are expected Sunday and Sunday night. With
this, expect clear skies Saturday from Utqiagvik east and
remaining clear east of Deadhorse through Monday. Highs will be in
the single digits above and below zero with lows mainly from zero
to 10 below.

West Coast and Western Interior...A low pressure system and
associated occluded boundary will bring heavy snow over most of
the west coast with blizzard conditions across the Bering Strait
and southern Seward Peninsula Saturday into Sunday. The heaviest
snow expected over the Seward Peninsula and Nulato Hills with
6 to 12 inches possible. Nome could see a foot of snow. Southeast
winds of 30 to 45 mph with gusts to 60 mph possible through the
Bering and along the Yukon Delta coast. Heavy snow is also
expected in the Western Interior. Freezing rain is possible
Saturday afternoon in the Yukon Delta. Conditions will improve
Sunday afternoon.

Central and Eastern Interior...Snow will continue to diminish
across the Interior through the afternoon and any warnings and
advisories have been cancelled. Temperatures over northern Alaska
will be cooling today and into early next week with near normal to
below normal temperatures are expected. Some clearing is expected
during the day Saturday and as a result cooler temperatures.
Highs today will be mainly in the teens above zero again before
dropping to around zero Saturday with some colder areas in the
eastern Interior where clearing is expected to last the longest.
Lows will be mainly 10 to 20 below zero with some 20s and 30s
below zero expected in valleys from Tok to Chicken to the Alcan
Border on Saturday night. The potential for significant snow
for the Central and Southern Interior Monday into Tuesday.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

Extended Forecast For Days 4 Through 7...Additional snow is
possible in the Interior Monday and Tuesday. Another storm system
in the Western Bering Sea will bring another round of possibly
heavy snow to the West Coast on Tuesday. Models disagree on how
far into the Interior this will push late Tuesday, Wednesday, and
the rest of the week, but do agree on bringing warm air from the
north Pacific north into the Interior. Will continue to monitor
for the possibility of freezing rain in the Interior from the
middle to end of next week. The pattern looks to remain quick
moving, progressive, and generally warmer than climatological
normals all the way through day 10 with additional chances for
snow on the West Coast and in the Interior.
