.SYNOPSIS...
Winds will increase today over highway summits in the interior,
the Alaska Range Passes as well as the Arctic Coast with local
blowing and drifting snow. Temperatures will begin a slow warming
trend today that will continue into the weekend and early next
week.

.DISCUSSION...
Aloft at 500 hpa...High pressure aloft 544 dam will stay over
the high Arctic, southerly flow will set up over the Interior
and southerly flow over the west coast through Friday. Ridging
will continue over Alaska into the weekend as the deep and cold
longwave trough anchored by the low north and east of Banks Island
digs south over Great Slave Lake and another upper level low
anchors a trough over the Central Bering Sea. The strong ridge of
high pressure along over Alaska will weaken again next week as
another low pressure trough develops over Banks Island and digs
south and west over Northern Alaska early next week.

Arctic Coast and Brooks Range...Wind chill advisories converted
to winter weather advisories as winds are expected to increase
tonight to 15 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph locally mainly to the
east of Utqiagvik. Blowing snow is expected to develop east of
Utqiagvik tonight with visibility reduced to less than one mile.
Lows tonight mainly in the teens below in the Brooks Range to the
20s and 30s below in the plains and along the coast. Highs today
will range from single digits above in the Brooks Range to the
teens below on the Central and Eastern Arctic Coast.

West Coast and Western Interior...Northeast to east winds will
increase today and tonight to 10 to 25 mph gusting around 40 mph
locally. Lows tonight range from the single digits below along the
Chukchi Sea Coast to the single digits above in the Lower Yukon
Delta. Highs today will range from the single digits above on the
Chukchi Sea coast to the teens and 20s for areas to the south.

Central and Eastern Interior...Gusty northeast winds will continue
today through Thursday morning with gusts to 35 mph expected over
highway summits north of the Chatanika River. Areas of blowing
and drifting snow are expected. Main impacts will be on the
highway summits, especially the Dalton, Elliott and Steese
Highways. Strong, gusty winds are expected to continue through
Thursday morning. High temperatures today will range from the
teens above to near 25 above and upper 20s to low 30s Friday
through the weekend.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

Extended forecast for days 4 to 7...High pressure will hold over
the Arctic as low pressure over the mainland is reinforced by a
low moving into the state from the southwest. Generally dry
through the weekend then some light snow possible in the southern
Interior as a decaying front moves into the area and drags east
over the Alaska Range. Temperatures will generally be near or
slightly above climatological normals for late March.
