* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected. Travel will be very 
  difficult to impossible. Total snow accumulations of up to one 
  inch are expected.

* WHERE...Eastern Beaufort Sea Coast.

* WHEN...3 AM Sunday to midnight Sunday night.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Winds gusting as high as 55 mph will 
  cause whiteout conditions in blowing snow. Significant 
  drifting of the snow is likely.

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds

Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion

.SYNOPSIS...Stormy conditions winding down along the
west coast this morning. These conditions are expected to slowly
taper off this morning from south to north as the surface low
tracks north along the Chukchi Sea Coast. Snow expected to
develop across the Eastern Interior and Alaska Range this
afternoon and into Sunday. 2 to 4 inches for the Central Interior
and heavier amounts near the Alaska Range. Blizzard conditions
along the Eastern Beaufort Sea Coast possible on Sunday.

.DISCUSSION...
The upper level low over northwest Alaska will track across
the north slope today Southwestly flow pattern will turn more
westerly and northwestly on Sunday as a trough moves through the
Interior and ridging builds over the west coast on Sunday. Ridging
will continue Monday and Tuesday with little to no precip
expected. Models in good agreement through the short term and
stayed with continuity on the snow amounts across the Interior.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Gap winds have diminished some this morning, cancelled the wind
advisories. Winter weather advisories are still in effect for
the eastern Interior. Snow will begin to develop over the southern
Interior this morning and spread to the Central Interior this
afternoon. Around 2 inches expected for Fairbanks with higher
amounts of 4 to 7 inches from Delta Junction southeast towards
the Alaska Range. 7 to 12 inches expected for the eastern Alaska
Range from Trims Camp south. Snow will taper off early Sunday
morning. Ridging building in over the state will keep the Interior
quiet Sunday through Tuesday.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
strong southerly gap winds gusting to 40 mph will cause blowing
snow issues through the Brooks Range beginning this morning and
lasting into Saturday night. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches
are possible on the southern portions of Atigun and Anaktuvuk
Passes. BLowing snow and low visibility expected for Brooks
Range passes. Also west to northwest winds will develop across
the Arctic Coast late tonight into Sunday, with winds gusting 40
to 50 mph and near blizzard conditions possible along the eastern
Arctic Coast by Sunday. A winter storm watch has been upgraded to
a warning for the eastern north slope.

West Coast and Western Interior...
Snow and blowing snow will taper off from south to north this
morning as the surface low tracks north of Kivalina.
As the eventual weather exits the region, conditions are expected
to remain relatively quiet going into early next week.
Temperatures will cool going through the rest of the weekend, but
will remain in the 20s to low 30s for highs and lows in the
singles digits above across the Western Interior and teens above
along the West Coast for Monday.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

Extended Forecast Days 4 to 7...
Primarily a ridging pattern across the state on Tuesday will have
a trough impinge on the ridge across the Chukchi Sea Coast going
into the end of the week. The evolution of this troughing feature
across the state will impact the intrusion of colder air across
the forecast area.
