* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other 
  sensitive vegetation.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent
freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should
be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have
in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-
ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

Northerly wind gusts have largely subsided along the Colorado
River Valley, with breezy conditions remaining. Winds will
continue to diminish as the evening progresses. As such, the Lake
Wind Advisory has been allowed to expire on time.

.SYNOPSIS...A cold front is moving across the area this morning
ushering in gusty northerly winds and cooler, more seasonable
temperatures. The strongest winds later today will occur in the
Colorado River Valley where a wind advisory is in effect through
this evening. Temperatures will remain at near normal levels on
Thanksgiving before beginning a gradual warming trend into the
weekend as high pressure builds over the area.

.UPDATE...Gusty north winds are in place across much of the area
this morning. The highest gusts, as expected, are in the Colorado
River Valley where a Wind Advisory is in effect. Temperatures are
expected to be about 8-12 degrees cooler today depending on the
location. However, less cooling may occur in some locations for
various reasons including lower temps yesterday due to inversions
and cloud cover as well as factoring in today's wind. Otherwise,
expect sunny conditions throughout the day.

.PREVIOUSLY ISSUED DISCUSSION...

.SHORT TERM...Today through Thursday.

A cold front draped across the Las Vegas metro area early this
mornings will continue to press south through mid-day. Winds will
increase out of the north behind the front and usher in cooler,
more seasonable temperatures to the region. The strongest winds
this afternoon will be in the lower Colorado River Valley where
gusts of 35-45mph can be expected, and as a result a wind advisory
will be in effect through this evening for this area. While winds
will decrease in most areas tonight and Thursday, breezy
conditions will persist in the CRV below Hoover Dam. A few gusts
over 40mph will be possible in this area Thursday, but considering
the more isolated nature of these gusts, the wind advisory has
not been extended at this time.

Temperatures are expected to drop to near freezing near Kingman and
Dolan Springs for the first time this season Thursday morning,
and a Freeze Warning has been issued for this area. Temperatures
will also cool into the 30s along the I-15 corridor northeast of
Las Vegas, but there should be enough wind overnight in that area
to keep readings above freezing. All areas will continue to see
near normal high temperatures on Thanksgiving Day.

.LONG TERM...Friday through Tuesday

Ridge will dominate the Intermountain West/Mojave Desert through the
end of the month. There will a weak low over northwest Mexico during
the period in some form but will have no impact on our weather. This
time of the year pattern will be condusive for persistent north
breezes within the lower Colorado River Valley. Still looks like
gusts 25-35 mph Friday, 15-25 mph possible the other days.
Temperatures will continue to warm Friday-Saturday then plateau
around 10 degrees above normal Sunday-Tuesday.

.AVIATION...For McCarran...North winds 10-15 knots developing early
this morning will increase with gusts 20-25 knots from mid morning
through the afternoon. Speeds will decrease after sunset but should
remain above 10 knots overnight through Thursday morning. Mostly
clear sky.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...North winds 15-25 knots spreading over the region early
this morning will increase after sunrise and continue through the
day with gusts up to 35-40 knots near Laughlin-Bullhead City. Gusts
will diminish early this evening, but speeds of 10-20 knots will be
common at TAF sites. IFP may see speeds 20-30 knots through
Thursday. High clouds moving over Arizona this morning will leave a
clear sky the rest of today and tonight.
