Issued at 326 AM CDT Sun Aug 8 2021

As advertised, the mid-level trough has progressed into the Plains
this morning with non-severe showers and thunderstorms continuing
across the forecast area ahead of this feature. This precipitation
is progged to weaken and exit the area around sunrise this morning
as skies begin to clear from west to east. The trough continues its
slow trek eastward through the rest of the day, not making it east
of the CWA until late this evening. As clouds clear and daytime
heating commences, MUCAPE values should rebound to 2000+ J/kg by
late this morning with bulk shear around 30 kts. With support from
the upper trough along with a few outflow boundaries from storms
during the morning, expecting additional convection to develop ahead
of the surface trough axis mainly across northeast and east central
Kansas. CAMs depict some scattered convection developing during the
mid to late morning, although the better chances come during the mid
afternoon as the already weak cap becomes even weaker. Most likely
locations for afternoon storms would be along and south of the
Kansas Turnpike. Some of these storms could be severe with damaging
winds and large hail being the main hazards. Convection shifts
southeast by midnight on Monday.

Brief ridging builds in for Monday with a thermal ridge extending
across the Plains. Temperatures warm into the middle and upper 90s
(with some low 100 readings in north central Kansas) and dewpoints
in the mid 60s to the mid 70s will lead to heat index values around
105. Similar conditions are possible on Tuesday, although a passing
shortwave and associated precipitation and cloud cover may keep heat
indices from reaching heat advisory criteria. Will hold off on any
heat headlines for now. Storms that develop Monday afternoon/evening
near a surface trough across northwest Kansas and southern Nebraska
may move into north central Kansas Monday night, but model consensus
is for these to dissipate before entering the western part of the
CWA. Temperatures remain in the 90s through Thursday before cooling
slightly to end the week. A couple of passing waves may lead to
periodic precip chances Wed-Fri, but details in timing and location
remain uncertain this far out.

Issued at 1230 PM CDT Sun Aug 8 2021

VFR conditions are expected through the period. Winds south to
southwest around 11 kts with gusts to 22kts expected through 01Z
then decreasing to 10 kts or less for the rest of the forecast
period. TSRA chances look best to the southeast of TOP and FOE
terminals and have left out of the forecast. Will continue to
monitor and make updates as needed.
