Issued at 256 PM CDT Sun Jul 25 2021 As of 1930Z Sunday afternoon, west-northwest midlevel flow remains across the forecast area with a subtle shortwave trough working through the mid-MO valley region. This shortwave aided in thunderstorm development this morning along a diffuse surface trough axis, which currently bisects the area. Widespread thunderstorm activity and cold-pool mergers ultimately allowed for a southward advancing outflow boundary to form. At this hour, the outflow boundary has pushed near the OK state line. Rain-cooled air combined with predominately overcast skies for much of the day has kept temperatures in the low 80s along the NE border to the low 90s along/southeast of I-35. Otherwise, for the remainder of today, any robust convection should remain along the outflow boundary in southern KS. For tonight and Monday, the majority of convection should remain focused along the residual outflow boundary from southern KS to southern MO. Otherwise, the heat and humidity will be on the increase through the week as the midlevel ridge amplifies and expands across the central Plains. Heat index values will near 100 degrees Monday afternoon, which may turn out to be 'coolest' heat index values through the work-week. Confidence is moderate for heat advisory values (~105 degrees) Tuesday afternoon but increases to high for Wednesday and Thursday. The combination of afternoon temperatures in the mid-90s to low-100s with dew points remain in the low to mid-70s will set the stage for heat index values up to 110 Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. The stretch of hot and humid conditions could persist through Friday and into Saturday, but this hinges on the southward extent of a weak frontal boundary Friday afternoon. 12Z solutions are more aggressive with its southward push and provide some brief-relief from the heat Friday afternoon.
