SUMMARY...Mixed winter precipitation will persist across parts of
eastern IA into northern IL, with mainly periods of moderate to
heavy snow developing further north into southeast MN and southern
WI much of today.
DISCUSSION...Strong warm advection around 850-700 mb ahead of an
eastward-progressing surface low will continue across the MCD area
this morning into this afternoon. Isentropic ascent atop a surface
warm front further south across the mid-MS Valley will support
continued moderate precipitation rates. Temperatures across the
region range from 30-34 F south, into the 20s F and upper teens
north. Periods of mixed precipitation are possible across parts of
eastern IA into northern IL, with rain, snow and possibly freezing
rain expected to persist for several hours as near-surface wet-bulb
temperatures hover around 28-32 degrees.
Further north across northeast IA into southeast MN and southern WI,
temperatures will remain colder and periods of moderate to heavy
snow are possible. This system will remain fairly progressive
through the day, with heavier precipitation shifting from south to
north the next several hours.
