Otherwise, nely winds will generally veer around to the s with pds of variability throughout today, with speeds less than 10 kts continuing through the end of the pd. /12/ && .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 401 AM CST Wed Jan 20 2021/ SHORT TERM.../Today through Thursday/ Stalled cold front now s of our region this morning, with associated light shwrs continuing to the n of the boundary. Radar trends over the last few hours supports the fcst of diminishing shwrs, likely to be gone altogether by mid morning. Boundary to remain stalled just to our s today, bringing another wide range of max temps to the region again today. Have blended the NBM with the typically superior-in-shallow-airmasses NAM/MET for max temps today, which trended the NBM numbers down just a bit, particularly across the srn half of the area. Weak upper ridging to begin to flatten out this aftn/evening, allowing for lift associated with a closed upper low just off the nrn Baja Coast to begin increasing and interacting with the shallow cold airmass in place across much of our region. Showers will quickly develop to our w and spread across the nrn half of the region this evening and overnight. Meanwhile, the sfc boundary will drift nwd, bringing unseasonably warm temperatures across Deep E TX and the Toledo Bend Country. Shwrs will continue along and n of the sfc boundary Thursday, as an impulse rounding the base of the trof over sern Canada forces it to drift back swd. Convection to pick up intensity by the aftn, as the upper flow becomes wswly and lift increases ahead of the Baja trof, now open and ejecting ewd. /12/ LONG TERM.../Thursday Night through Tuesday Night/ This active weather pattern continues by Thursday night as the stationary front over our northern zones finally begins to shift back southward as a cold front. Ingredients for persistent rainfall will line up twice in the following five days. They include: Pacific moisture aloft, previously fed in by the cut-off upper low near the Baja Peninsula, and warm air advection enhancing low-level convergence at the surface. Rain chances will still primarily arrive as showers, while a few thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. By Friday evening, precipitation will gradually clear out of the area from north to south zones. A brief respite in rainfall arrives on Saturday, before the next batch of precipitation streams in from the west along a fast moving warm front by Saturday evening. Aloft, an elongated trough swings over the West Coast and Lower Rocky Mountains to create the next chance of rain that continues through the day next Monday.
