.PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 936 PM CDT Thu Jul 29 2021/

UPDATE...

Diurnal convection was lingering along the "sea breeze front"
coming into our southern zones this evening, but it has rapidly
diminished over the past hour and little (if any) activity is
anticipated through the remainder of the night. There could be a
patch or two of light fog or haze late tonight through around
daybreak but in general we anticipate clear to partly cloudy skies
and very steamy and muggy conditions through the remainder of the
night with low temperatures in the upper 70s. Very little tweaks
were made to the ongoing forecast through tomorrow morning. An
overview of today's high temps and peak heat indices this evening
reveals there may some opportunity to introduce an Excessive Heat
Warning to the continuing Heat Advisories for some eastern
portions of the region for tomorrow. However, the oncoming early
morning shift will have the ultimate say in tomorrow's oppressive
heat advertisement products. /50/

PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 237 PM CDT Thu Jul 29 2021/

SHORT TERM.../Tonight through Friday Night/

Temperatures will gradually decrease after sunset tonight,
however, overnight lows will remain elevated into the mid-to-upper
70s due to persistent dew points in the low-to-mid 70s. This
environment of above average temperatures and humidity will set
the stage for more hazardous heat, which will be the main theme
for the Ark-La-Tex through the next 36 hours and into the weekend
as well.

Ridging aloft, over the Lower Great Plains, continues to
gradually build southeastward into the Ark-La-Tex, reinforcing an
environment conducive for hot conditions once again. Upper 90s are
most likely north of the I-20 corridor with some areas in
southwest Arkansas possibly approaching the triple-digit mark.
More significantly, with dew points still in the low-to-mid 70s,
heat indices will meet or exceed 105 degrees areawide, prompting
issuance of another Heat Advisory from noon to 7 PM CDT on Friday.
High resolution guidance suggests even drier conditions than
today with any precipitation that can develop doing so in an
isolated pulse-style convective form south of the I-20 corridor.
No additional precipitation chances are expected outside of that
timeframe and area. By Friday night, a similar pattern repeats
itself with lows in the mid-to-upper 70s. Light southerly surface
winds will veer, gaining a westerly component overnight as surface
ridging moves offshore over the Gulf of Mexico. /16/

LONG TERM.../Saturday through Wednesday Night/

Upper-ridge at the start of the period to maintain hot conditions
across the region with high temperatures through the weekend
averaging in the upper 90s to near 100 degrees. With surface high
pressure centered across the northern Gulf of Mexico, low-level
southerly flow will continue to maintain afternoon relative humidity
values around 40 to 50 percent allowing heat index values to
approach 110 degrees across portions of the region both days.

Precipitation chances to increase on Monday as a cold front moves
across the region. Instability, allowing for enhanced atmospheric
mixing, combined with increased cloud-cover and rainfall will
suppress daytime temperatures, allowing for high temperatures to
climb only to around 90 degrees.

Cold front forecast to linger across the northern gulf coast through
the remainder of the forecast period. An upper-low will retrograde
southwest from the Great Lakes region allowing for scattered
afternoon showers and thunderstorms through midweek. Additionally,
the combination of increased instability, cloud cover, and slightly
cooler high pressure settling in from the north will maintain high
temperatures around 90 degrees areawide with slightly cooler low
temperatures in the lower 70s.

551 AM CDT Thu Jul 29 2021

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of south central
Arkansas, southwest Arkansas, north central Louisiana, northwest
Louisiana, southeast Oklahoma, east Texas and northeast Texas.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight...

A Heat Advisory is in effect today for all of the Four State
Region. Temperatures will again climb into the mid and upper 90s
this afternoon across the area, and when combined with the
humidity, will result in heat indices ranging from 105 to 110
degrees. In addition, isolated to widely scattered showers and
thunderstorms will develop today over portions of East Texas and
North Louisiana, before diminishing by sunset.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday...

Very hot, humid, and mostly dry conditions will continue across
the region Friday through Sunday, as an upper level ridge of high
pressure begins to shift southeast into the area. This will result
in the hottest temperatures so far this summer, and when combined
with the humidity, will produce heat indices that will near or
exceed 105 degrees each day. However, a weak cool front will shift
south into the region late Sunday, which will focus an increase
in showers and thunderstorms over the area late Sunday through
Tuesday. The increased cloud cover and rain near and behind the
front will also contribute to slightly cooler temperatures Monday
through midweek.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Activation of emergency management personnel...amateur radio
operators...and storm spotters will not be needed through tonight.
