beaches. A shrinking marine layer will keep most coastal locations

A strong area of high pressure will anchor itself over far
southeastern California through Wednesday, with 500 mb heights
peaking near 596 dam. West of the mountains, temperatures will
peak today and Tuesday, with slightly cooler conditions Wednesday.
The deserts will experience excessive heat Tuesday and Wednesday,
with highs that could locally approach 120 F in the Coachella
Valley, accompanied by very warm overnight lows. Anomalously cool
sea surface temperatures will help mitigate heat impacts at the
coast and beaches, such that moderate/high heat risk will
primarily impact interior valleys, with lower risk closer to the
coast. Patchy low clouds may develop overnight/early morning over
the coastal waters and near beaches, but coverage will be very
limited if not zero over land the next couple of nights. As the
high pressure weakens, expect low clouds to slowly expand into
coastal areas Wednesday and Thursday.
