.SYNOPSIS...An upper ridge of the Pacific Northwest through
today will bring drier and warmer weather to Western Washington.
An upper trough will approach the area into Sunday with a round of
rain Sunday into early Monday. Upper ridging builds into the area
Tuesday into Wednesday. A more active pattern with troughing
Thursday into late next week.

.SHORT TERM /TODAY THROUGH MONDAY/...Clear skies for most of the
area this morning with a few high clouds. Temperatures this
morning in the 30s for most locations with below freezing
temperatures along areas of the southern Puget Sound. Areas of
patchy fog, and freezing fog, possible across the south Puget
Sound through this morning. Dry weather through today with the
upper ridge over the area and just some high clouds. Temperatures
will be warmest today out of the previous few days with highs in
the upper 50s to low 60s.
Increasing clouds tonight into Sunday morning as a front
approaches offshore. The front will slide onshore Sunday morning
and move east through the day for light rain over the area. Breezy
winds briefly on Sunday with the front. Showers will linger
Sunday night as the front weakens over the area. The bulk of the
energy associated with this system will slide to the south on
Monday with just a few lingering showers, mainly over the
Cascades. Snow amounts for the mountains will be mainly light with
1-2" for the Hurricane Ridge area and around an inch for the
Passes. Temperatures will be cooler Sunday into Monday with the
front with highs in the low to mid 50s Sunday and upper 40s to low
50s Monday.
.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...Ridging will build into the
area Tuesday and most of Wednesday for drier weather. Guidance is
generally good agreement of the next front approaching the area
on Wednesday night through Thursday as troughing develops across
much of the NE Pacific. A cooler and wetter pattern late next week
with the troughing offshore or over the Pacific Northwest.
Temperatures near average next week with most days in the low to
mid 50s for the area. JD

.AVIATION...Weak high pressure influence both at the surface and
aloft will allow for another TAF period of VFR conditions (with the
typical exception of some fog around KOLM this morning). High level
cloud cover between 15-25kft will increase later in the day and
through the overnight period ahead of the next frontal system. Rain
will begin to spread onshore just after the end of this TAF cycle
Sunday morning. Winds light through the period, generally under 6kts
out of the S.
KSEA...VFR with increasing high clouds later today and overnight.
Winds 5kts or less out of the S.

.MARINE...Weak high pressure remains the dominant feature over
Western Washington this morning, with a frontal system noted well
offshore. The high pressure influence over the area will allow for
one last day of rather benign and dry weather.
As the aforementioned offshore frontal system works its way towards
the area through the day today, southerly winds out ahead of it
should begin to reach small craft advisory level around mid-late
morning over the Outer Coastal Waters. These winds will then spread
across the remaining Coastal Waters through the afternoon and
evening hours. Winds will increase slightly over the interior
waters, but will remain 15kts or less.
Winds will really begin to pick up overnight tonight and into early
Sunday morning. Have upgraded the Gale Watch over the Coastal Waters
to a Gale Warning beginning at 1AM Sunday. As Gale Force winds begin
to spread over these waters, southerly winds will quickly increase
over the interior waters, especially over the Eastern Strait of Juan
de Fuca and the Northern Inland Waters. Have issued Small Craft
Advisory headlines for these waters to account for this, as well as
most neighboring waters. As the frontal system moves across the area
Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon, a secondary trough axis is
expected to follow in its wake. This is expected to keep winds
elevated through the remainder of the day, with Gale Force winds
offshore and Small Craft Advisory winds over the interior waters.
Winds will finally ease Monday morning, however, expect a westerly
push down the Strait to bring continued Small Craft Advisory level
winds to the Central and Eastern portion of the Strait through much
of Monday.
WAVES: Swells will gradually increase through the day today to
between 5-7 feet and then to between 12-14 feet through Sunday. Seas
will gradually subside through the day Monday, remaining under 10
feet through mid week before increasing back towards the 10-12 ft
range Thursday and Friday with the next front. A Small Craft
Advisory for hazardous seas has been issued for Grays Harbor Bar
beginning Sunday morning.
