As they always are this time of year, the dry break will be short-
lived as the cold front associated with the parent low over the
coastal waters will swing onshore by late afternoon tomorrow with
widespread rain Thursday night into Friday. One thing to keep an eye
on will be winds with this cold front. Current model solutions seem
to be hinting at backing down from prior forecast...which would have
merited possible wind headlines along the coast and maybe into the
north interior. Of course, this may be part of the usual ploy for
models to downplay higher speeds in the 24-36 hour window only to
ramp them back up much closer to the event. At this time, keeping
winds just below any headline criteria as a starting point for
future shifts...and certainly would not take massaging to get the
forecast up into at least Advisory criteria. Outside of those areas,
remainder of W WA will see breezy to locally windy conditions...but
will fall below any headline thresholds. The other alteration to
inherited forecast was to remove any mention of thunderstorms over
the coastal waters and over the coast as this system pushes
ashore...as stability indices and CAPE values seem a bit
lackluster. While this kind of activity has had better success in
migrating northward from PQR's waters this year as opposed to years
previous, continue to feel best chances likely to remain south of
the CWA and associated waters.
Friday sees another front push into the area with yet another round
of rainfall for W WA...but a weak upper level ridge might wrap up
activity by sunset making for a dry overnight period.
High temps take a bit of a hit Thursday ahead of the front, but
still mild for the season getting into the mid to upper 50s. Friday
has the coolest afternoon temps of the short term, with highs in the
lower 50s. 18
.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...From Previous
Discussion...To live up to the season, sure enough another front
follows the brief break afforded to the CWA Friday night. While this
ejects Saturday night, general troughiness will remain in place over
the region allowing for a series of shortwaves to keep rain in the
forecast for the remainder of the weekend. While deterministic
models are in agreement that some upper level ridging might sneak
into the area for Monday, bringing almost a full 24 hours of dry
conditions, ensemble members provide a vast array of solutions,
undermining any degree of confidence for the remainder of the
forecast period.
Temps for the long term period remain pretty static with high temps
in the upper 40s to lower 50s for most lowland locations. 18

.AVIATION...A warm front continues to lift across the area this
evening. As it lifts north overnight, most of the widespread rain
will follow, decreasing precipitation chances at most of the TAFs
into Wednesday. Still expecting ceilings to improve overnight and
Wednesday as a result, with VFR ceilings expected to largely
prevail. The exception could be PWT and OLM where some low clouds
and fog may develop-confidence is still relatively low given
expansive mid level clouds. Winds generally E/SE thru the period 5-
10kts, tho may be higher at HQM and BLI.
KSEA...VFR ceilings through the period, with rain tapering towards
midnight. Dry conditions largely expected most of Wednesday. Winds
E/SE 5-10kts.

.MARINE...The only change to the ongoing marine forecast was to add
a small craft advisory to the East Entrance of the Strait and
Northern Inland Waters as the gale expires around midnight tonight,
as model guidance continues to suggest winds taking a while to drop
back down below 20kts through much of Wednesday. The rest of the
discussion still remains valid below:
An active pattern is expected for the next several days
with a series of frontal systems moving through.
A warm front will continue to move through the area this evening
with gale force southerly winds expected for the Coastal Waters,
East Entrance Strait of Juan de Fuca, and Northern Inland Waters.
Small craft advisory strength winds are likely with this system for
most other waters as well.
A second vigorous frontal system will move through the area
Wednesday night and Thursday. Another round of gales is likely for
the Coastal Waters, East Entrance Strait of Juan de Fuca and
Northern Inland Waters with this system.
Additional weather systems will arrive Friday and Saturday with more
headlines likely. Yet another strong frontal system will be
approaching the area from the west on Monday. West to southwest
swell will build to 10-15 feet Thursday and remain elevated into
the weekend.

.HYDROLOGY...A fairly wet frontal system and high snow levels could
be enough to push the Skokomish River in Mason County above flood
stage later Thursday.
Elsewhere, river flooding is unlikely for the next 7 days. The
pattern is looking wet with a series of frontal system crossing
the area but each system is progressive which should limit the
threat of river flooding. 16
