.SYNOPSIS...Easterly winds will be picking up this evening as a
front approaches the area. Multiple weak systems will move through
the area during the week giving way to persistent cloudy, breezy
and damp conditions. The overall weather pattern will become more
favorable for more organized fronts and weather systems to move
through the area.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...As the pressure gradient
tightens due to an approaching frontal system to the west, winds
will be picking up through this evening and into tonight. Winds
through the Cascade Gaps and into the foothills will experience
the strongest easterlies with gusts 30-40 mph likely. As the front
moves into Western Washington on Monday winds will become more
southerly and relax slightly, but breezy conditions will remain.
As the front moves through the area expect mostly light rain.
The warm front from the next system is expected to move in late
Tuesday/early Wednesday which will keep things both damp and
breezy especially near the water. Highs will be in the mid 50s to
low 60s for much of the area through the period with lows in the
40s.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...No big changes weather wise
for the first portion on the long term period. But models do seem
to be in agreement that an upper level trough will begin to
strengthen and extend down from Gulf of Alaska. This extension
will help keep the low pressure systems more organized as they
approach Washington. Some deterministic models do suggest that
there is a chance of a stronger low approaching the area at the
end of the week, but overall there is no good consensus as to its
strength. Regardless of strength, with the change in weather
pattern systems that approach the area will be more put together,
yielding more persistent and widespread rain.

.AVIATION...Clear skies will continue this evening and overnight
before high clouds move in from the SW ahead of the next front early
Monday. Ceilings will then gradually lower as rain approaches,
eventually becoming MVFR post-frontal towards the end of the TAF
cycle. Winds will remain out of the N/NE through this evening,
sustained 5 to 10kts, becoming light overnight and then shifting to
the S/SE on Monday 5 to 10kts.
KSEA...VFR into Monday afternoon, with rain then arriving and
ceilings dropping to MVFR late in the day. Winds N/NE around 10kts
through the evening, easing towards 5-7kts overnight and then
shifting S/SE late Monday morning/early afternoon around the arrival
of rain.

.MARINE...Breezy north and east winds continue over the waters this
afternoon as a pressure gradient remains relatively tight as a
1035mb surface high slides down the east side of the northern
Rockies and lower pressure continues offshore. Current headlines
feature a continued SCA for the Coastal Waters and the Central
Strait & West Entrance where winds remain breeziest. Tonight, winds
should ease, however, most model guidance is suggestive of SCA level
winds remaining through the W Entrance, Central Strait, and adjacent
Coastal Waters. This will keep the current SCAs for these waters in
place overnight.
For Monday, a quick-moving, fairly weak frontal system will push
across the waters. Winds will begin to turn S just ahead of the
front and the gradient will tighten up again to allow for another
round of widespread SCA level winds. Currently anticipating all
waters except Puget Sound to be under an advisory for much of
Monday. Winds will ease rather quickly behind the front Monday night.
From Tuesday onward, expect an active pattern over the Pacific
Northwest, with breezy conditions expected for most of the week.
Several frontal systems will pass through, with Wednesday and Friday
looking the windiest, with gales likely over the Coastal Waters and
SCA winds (perhaps some gales in northern interior zones) elsewhere.
Swells increasing to around 7 feet Monday, possibly approaching 10
feet on Wednesday, with a better chance for swells >10ft into next
weekend.
