.SYNOPSIS...Active weather pattern will persist across the
northwest through the period. A warm front will push through the
region tonight, bringing rain and a modest warming trend in
temperatures through Saturday. A more potent system is set to
affect the region this weekend into early next week with
additional lowland rain, mountain snow and breezy conditions
possible.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...Doppler radar shows areas
of rain associated with a weak warm front moving into Western
Washington this evening. The warm front will weaken and stall over
the area later tonight into Thursday. Periods of light rain will
continue into Thursday.
Upper level flow will shift from northwesterly to zonal as the
upper level ridge axis currently over the eastern Pacific Ocean
shifts inland and flattens later Thursday and Friday as another
shortwave trough ejects out of the Gulf of Alaska. This will yield
height rises at mid-levels, resulting in a modest warming trend
through Friday. Saturday looks to be the first day of the month
with above normal temperatures with highs in the low to mid 60s
and lows rising to the upper 40s to low 50s.
Rain will return to the forecast for Friday and into Saturday as a
fetch of moisture associated with the aforementioned shortwave
trough streams over the region. It is worth noting that the pressure
gradient between the center of high pressure to the south and the
potent upper low in the Gulf of Alaska will tighten on Saturday,
leading to breezy conditions along the outer coast, the San Juans
and along the Whatcom and Skagit County coasts. Major impacts are
not expected at this time. The moisture fetch will shift to the
north on Saturday, giving much of the region a brief break from
rain. This will be short lived, as a stronger, more potent low
pressure system ejects out of the Gulf of Alaska. This will set the
stage for an active end of the weekend and start of the work week.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...Previous discussion
follows. Confidence is high in the aforementioned upper low
bringing another round of rain, mountain snow and breezy
conditions on Sunday through Monday. Ensemble guidance had been
favoring a main low track across Vancouver Island. The 12z suite
of ensemble guidance is now showing a signal where the vorticity
maximum elongates and splits - with part of this energy
traversing Vancouver Island and the other significant part
tracking south toward the southern Washington/Oregon Coastline.
These trends will be worth watching, as they will mainly affect
the wind forecast and associated potential impacts for Sunday. In
addition to this - the overall progression of the system remains a
question mark - will it move through quickly, or will it linger
into Monday? The finer details will come to light here in the next
day or two. The bottom line is to expect another round of rain,
mountain snow and breezy conditions Sunday into Monday.
Considerable impacts are not expected at this time, but interested
parties should stay tuned to the forecast to monitor for changes!
For early next week, ensemble guidance is in good agreement this
afternoon in a shortwave ridge pushing across the region in the wake
of the aforementioned system late Monday through Tuesday, with
another system possible by midweek.
