.SYNOPSIS...An upper ridge will bring dry weather through
Thursday. A vigorous frontal system will bring rain and windy
conditions on Friday. An upper trough will bring cool and showery
weather over the weekend with isolated thunderstorms possible.
Drier and more tranquil weather is expected the first half of of
next week.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...An upper ridge will move
over the area on Thursday for a dry and mostly sunny day. Highs
will be slightly below normal.
A vigorous frontal system will move through the area Friday and
Friday night, bringing rain, heavy at times, and windy conditions
to some locations. The mountains look to pick up 2-4" of rain with
locally higher totals possible. The lowlands should get 1-2" of
rain. It will also get windy with the front. Advisory strength
winds are expected coast and north interior with some impacts,
especially since it's the first event event of the season with
leaves still on the trees. It will be breezy to windy most other
areas as well but not as impactful. Highs will be in the lower to
mid 60s on Friday.
The front will move inland early Saturday and an upper trough will
move over the area during the day for showers. The air mass will
become unstable behind the front and there will be a slight chance
of thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon and evening. Snow
levels will fall to 6500-7000 feet on Saturday and the higher
terrain should get the first accumulating snows of the season.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...An upper trough will cross
the area on Sunday for another showery day. There will also be
another slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and
evening. Snow levels will be around 6500 feet for a little more
snow possible over the higher terrain. Highs will be upwards of
10 degrees below normal.
An upper ridge will move over the area on Monday for mostly dry
weather but there is enough spread and uncertainty in the
ensembles for some chance PoPs. Ditto for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Highs should be mostly in the 60s each day. Schneider

.AVIATION...Clouds in the interior continue to linger around this
afternoon and are making slow progress in scattering out, but are
still expected to later this evening and tonight. With clear skies
and cooling temperatures we are expecting some areas of fog to
form. This will mostly be contained to the valleys and drainages
but could impact some of the area terminals during the early
morning hours. Northerly winds will also gradually be easing
through today and will likely become light and variable for the
interior terminals. Any fog that forms during the overnight should
mix out starting between 16 and 18 UTC. At this time winds will
also start to pick up. North/northwesterlies are expected and
should be 5-7 knots during the day. Winds will be switching to
southerlies late Thursday night with the approaching cold front.
KSEA...Clouds will continue to scatter out through the rest of
today and into tonight. Mostly clear skies are expected during
the overnight with light to calm winds starting around 12UTC.
Patchy fog is expected to form during the overnight, and while not
expected directly at the terminal it could be in the vicinity and
potentially advect over. However, confidence is low when it comes
to the placement of the fog. Winds Thursday will generally be
light and northwesterly around 5 knots. A wind shift to more
southerly winds is expected to begin after 06 UTC Friday.

.MARINE...Mostly northerly wind will continue through today for
the area waters, with the exception being the Strait of Juan de
Fuca where a westerly push is expected. Small craft advisories
remain in effect for the coastal waters, Strait as well as the
Northern Inland Waters. While most of the N. Inland water zone is
not expected to have these SCA level winds, areas north of the San
Juan Islands likely will due to winds being funneled down the
Strait of Georgia. Northwesterly swells and winds will create for
combined seas for the coastal waters to be 6-8 feet through
Thursday night.
With a low approaching the area late Thursday we expect winds to
shift around to be more southerly ahead of the cold front. By late
Thursday night/early Friday morning Gale force winds are expected
over the coastal waters as well as the East entrance and N. Inland
waters. As the front moves inland winds in the Puget Sound will
increase and are expected to reach SCA level. Seas will also be
increasing once the cold front moves through. 8-10 foot waves are
expected over the coastal waters.

.HYDROLOGY...A vigorous frontal system will bring heavy rains to
the area Friday and Friday night. River flooding is not expected
at this time with dry antecedent conditions and low river flows
but sharp rises on areas rivers are likely. There is an outside
chance the exceptionally flood-prone Skokomish river in Mason
county could reach flood stage Saturday morning. Localized minor
urban flooding is also possible on Friday in areas of heavier
