.SYNOPSIS...Onshore flow will persist through the week ahead with
weak high pressure aloft through Tuesday for dry weather and
temperatures several degrees above normal. A broad upper trough will
cool temperatures to near or a little below normal mid week through
the weekend.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...Night and morning low
clouds will burn back to the immediate coast each of the next couple
days. High temperatures will reach their zenith on Tuesday as an
upper ridge axis slides across the region. For the remainder of the
week, onshore flow will ramp up and temperatures will make a
downward slide as heights fall and upper troughing gradually deepens
in the vicinity of Haida Gwaii. A number of models depict the upper
trough moving onshore at the end of the week with an outside shot at
some precipitation. But it will be fighting climatology. By the
second half of July, there's generally less than a 20% chance of
measurable precipitation on any given day in Seattle. Current
forecasts look on track. Previous discussion follows with updates to
marine and aviation portions. 27
Clear skies across the area this afternoon with clouds along the
coast, temperatures are in the 70s across the interior. Onshore flow
with stratus late tonight into the morning for the coast, Southwest
Interior, and into southern Puget Sound. Clouds will clear in those
areas through the morning with highs on Monday in the 60s along the
coast, and mid 70s to low 80s for the interior. Weak troughing
will slide through on Monday, along with daytime heating, there is
a slight chance for t-storms into the North Cascades area, mainly
on the east side of the crest.
Ridging will build into the area briefly on Tuesday for the
warmest day of the week with highs in the 60s along the coast and
80s for the interior. Broad troughing will set up offshore
Wednesday with increasing onshore flow and more widespread clouds
in the morning. Temperatures will be cooler Wednesday with the
troughing will highs in the 60s along the coast and low to mid
70s for the interior area.
.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...An upper trough will be
offshore and move over the Pacific Northwest later in the week and
into the weekend for cooler temperatures and increased clouds.
Thursday will be mainly dry, with just a slight chance for any
light precipitation in the far northern areas. An upper low will
slide southeast along the BC coastline into Friday with troughing
over the area. There is some uncertainty in guidance as to the
extent any rain is possible on Friday, the ECMWF ensembles
suggests troughing moves into the area more than GFS, for at least
a bit better chance for rain. Included at least a slight chance
for coastal and northern areas. The trough will be offshore
through the weekend with some ridging building back into the
interior Pacific NW. Temperatures will be cooler than normal
Thursday-Friday and increase a bit Saturday-Sunday. JD

.AVIATION...Westerly flow aloft will gradually become more
northwesterly and northerly Monday afternoon and evening.
Meanwhile, northerly surface winds at most TAF sites this evening
winds will begin to relax, become more variable, and settle into
the typical pattern for approaching marine stratus. Winds will
gradually pick up starting late Monday morning and are expected
to become northerly 7-10 knots by afternoon for most locations.
Latest satellite imagery shows marine stratus already starting to
push inland along the immediate coast this evening. Overall,
expect stratus to make its return around 06 UTC at the coastal
terminals such as KHQM. Marine stratus will move inland both
through the Chehalis River valley and down through the Strait of
Juan de Fuca. Stratus is expected to reach terminals of KPWT, KOLM
and KCLM between 10 and 12 UTC. Terminals further inland like
KPAE, KBFI and KSEA will likely not see stratus until around 12-14
UTC. Overall, expect stratus to stick around until 18-20 UTC for
inland terminals.
KSEA...Northerly winds continue at the terminal this evening and
will continue to ease to 3-5 knots tonight by 06-09 UTC. Winds may
briefly become variable before settling into southwesterly flow
for the incoming marine air. The stratus will likely reach the
terminal between 15-16 UTC and will likely drop ceilings down to
MVFR. While there is the potential for even lower cloud decks for
the morning rush, confidence remains low at this time. Stratus
should begin to mix out between 18-20 UTC as winds pick up and
begin to transition to northerly again by the afternoon.

.MARINE...North/northwesterly winds will remain in place through
the next several days over the coastal waters as high pressure
offshore interacts with lower pressure east of the Cascades. A
small craft advisory will continue for the coastal waters through
the remainder of the evening hours, with winds expected to ease
below SCA criteria after midnight. A SCA is also in effect for the
Central and Eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca into early Monday
morning. Winds will gradually ease through the morning before
picking back up Monday afternoon and evening. Monday's push of
westerlies down the Strait is expected to be stronger and could
yield gales. Thus, a Gale Watch remains in effect Monday afternoon
through late Monday night. Expect the weather pattern to remain
rather consistent over the next several days, with diurnal marine
pushes likely everyday.
Swells will remain benign and generally out of the northwest
between 3-5 feet through much of the week.
