.SYNOPSIS...Dry conditions are generally expected to continue
through the next week. A deeper push of marine stratus will keep
temperatures a little cooler Thursday. Temperatures remain above
normal through the holiday weekend and into the start of next week
with no precipitation expected.
&&
.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...Satellite imagery shows
stratus has already spread back over most of the interior from
Snohomish county southward and through the Strait of Juan de Fuca
to Whidbey Island. Mostly clear skies for the remainder of the
area with a little upper level smoke from the fire in Northern
California. Temperatures at 8 pm/03z were only in the mid 60s to
lower 70s.
Onshore flow continuing overnight into Thursday. KOTH-KSEA and
KHQM-KSEA gradients not that impressive at 03z, plus 2.4 and plus
0.8 millibars, but the cross Cascade gradient is plus 12 to plus
13 millibars. This will keep the marine air in place overnight
through Thursday. Have made a small adjustment to the forecast
adding more cloud cover for tonight and knocking a couple of
degrees off the high temperatures Thursday with the stratus deck
lasting into the afternoon hours.
Onshore gradients easing Thursday night into Friday resulting in a
shallower marine layer, earlier breakout into the sunshine Friday
and warmer high temperatures. Decreasing onshore gradient trend
continuing into Saturday with the late night and morning low
clouds confined mostly to the coast. No update to the forecast
beyond Thursday. Felton
.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...Previous discussion
follows. A more zonal flow pattern looks to develop across the
region next week, with a few weak disturbances in the flow
remaining well north and maintaining warm and dry conditions
through the holiday weekend. Expect a warming trend with afternoon
temperatures likely reaching the mid to upper 80s and not really
in the way of precipitation chances next week.

.AVIATION...Southerly flow aloft becoming more southwesterly
Thursday morning. Clouds remain in place over much of W WA this
evening with the area split between MVFR conditions along the coast,
along the Strait and in the South Sound/SW interior with VFR
conditions elsewhere. A deeper marine push tonight will bring more
widespread and thicker layer of stratus that likely lingers through
much of the morning, with improvement Thursday afternoon.
KSEA...Borderline VFR conditions expected to linger into this
evening before dipping down into MVFR after 09Z and likely staying
there overnight and into Thurs AM. Some lifting expected by 21Z
Thurs afternoon but likely will not return to VFR conditions until
late afternoon/early evening. SW wind to 10 kt with some gusts to 20
kt this evening, easing early Thursday. Cullen/18

.MARINE...Another push of winds through the Strait of Juan de Fuca
tonight with winds to 30 kt through the central and eastern Strait,
and some winds to 25 kt in the adjacent zones (Admiralty Inlet and
Northern Inland waters). A weak low moving through the waters may
maintain some briefly breezier winds near the inner coastal waters
(mostly within a few nautical miles of shore) this evening.
Inherited headlines look okay. Obs at Race Rocks have flirted with
gale criteria, and certainly would not rule out brief moments of
such, but the inherited 20-30 kts for the area likely best
representative of dominant speeds expected and as such will forgo
any upgrades at this time. Otherwise, seas over the coastal waters
will remain 5 to 8 feet (highest beyond 20 nm from shore) and
somewhat steep at times as persistent high pressure remains well
offshore.
Additional diurnal pushes through the Strait of Juan de Fuca can be
expected each late afternoon and evening with generally advisory
strength winds with each. A stronger push is possible late in the

.FIRE WEATHER....Onshore flow will continue through the next several
days. This flow pattern will keep relative humidity fairly high even
during the day. Temperatures will remain above normal and no precipitation
is expected over the next week. Additionally, we are expecting
Mid-level Haines values of 6 along the Cascade crest this weekend.
Currently, none of the zones are reaching Red Flag Criteria, however,
with the continued drying of all fuels there remains an elevated fire
danger for portions of Western Washington.
Finer fuels like grasses, brush, and shrubs throughout Western
Washington have certainly cured or have very low moisture content.
This continues to promote a prime environment for roadside and brush
fires and as such, drivers are highly encouraged to check and secure
anything that may be dangling from any trailers or undercarriages,
as these may create sparks. Additionally, any smokers are strongly
encouraged to extinguish and leave butts in car ashtrays, as
flinging them out the window could also lead to roadside fires.
