.SYNOPSIS...Upper level trough moving through the area today
keeping showers in the forecast. A weak upper level ridge will bring
a brief dry period tonight and Wednesday. Rain with a well organized
front arriving Wednesday night and lingering into Thursday. This
front may also allow for locally windy conditions Thursday as it
moves through Western Washington. Stronger upper level ridge
building over the area during the weekend bringing warm temperatures
to the region by Memorial Day.

.SHORT TERM /TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...Satellite imagery shows
plenty of clouds over W WA this morning as an upper level low
crosses the area. Radar paints a similar picture showing showers
associated with the system...mainly concentrated over the south
Sound region with little in the way of northward movement in spite
of the barely noticeable circulation around the aforementioned low.
This system will continue to move south and east, further limiting
precip potential as the day progresses.
An upper level ridge will enter the area by this evening and allow
for dry conditions overnight and for much of the day Wednesday, even
though clouds in advance of the next frontal system likely to start
entering W WA by Wed afternoon. The front itself looks to reach the
coast very early Thursday morning and move through the area Thursday
morning and afternoon. Rain still lingers for the remainder of the
day Thursday as the associated upper low follows quickly behind the
front. Precip amounts with this system looking interesting with a
spread in the ensembles ranging from a quarter-inch to a half-inch,
rather high for this time of year and given abnormally dry
conditions present over much of the area, these amounts would be
very welcomed indeed. Will also see some breezy to locally windy
conditions along with the front, but wind speeds should remain below
any headline criteria.
Afternoon highs in the short term not seeing too much variance
between today and Thursday with temps generally in the upper 50s to
lower 60s. Wednesday and its upper ridge will prove to be the
warmest though with highs in the mid to upper 60s in the interior
but only upper 50s for the coast.
Inherited forecast looks good and takes all of the above into

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...From Previous
Forecast...Extended models and ensembles in good agreement with
showers drying up Friday and one of the stronger upper level ridges
Western Washington has seen in a while building over the area for
the holiday weekend. Temperatures warming each day Saturday through
Memorial Day. Warm front moving by to the north Memorial day will
help pull up even warmer air from the south. Model 500 mb heights on
Monday in the lower to mid 580 dms. Surface gradients never turn
offshore which will will put a cap on how warm it will get. Highs
Saturday in the 60s and lower 70s warming to the upper 60s and 70s
Sunday and to the 70s and lower 80s Memorial Day. Felton

.AVIATION...Upper level low over Western Washington this morning
will shift east of the Cascades this afternoon. Light southerly flow
aloft will become northerly by this evening. Pockets of IFR/MVFR
ceilings with scattered showers will persist through the morning
then gradually dissipate this afternoon with ceilings lifting to VFR
for much of the region. Residual low level moisture and relatively
light surface winds will contribute to the redevelopment of MVFR
ceilings across the area again Wednesday morning.
KSEA...MVFR ceilings with scattered showers in the vicinity
persisting though midday. Shower activity is expected to dissipate
this afternoon with ceilings gradually lifting to VFR. Surface winds

.MARINE...Onshore flow will increase today with Small Craft
Advisory winds likely through the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Southerly flow will increase Wednesday night and Thursday as our
next frontal system moves in. High pressure over the NE Pacific will
maintain onshore flow Friday through the weekend. The flow will turn
offshore early next week as a thermal trough forms along the coast.
