What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this small craft advisory went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

NWS Seattle, WA wrote its last area forecast discussion before this small craft advisory went out at May 15, 8:05 PM PDT, 6 hours 42 minutes earlier.

Area forecast discussion, May 15, 8:05 PM PDT, 6 hours 42 minutes before
Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Seattle WA
805 PM PDT Sat May 15 2021

.SYNOPSIS...An upper level ridge over the Pacific Northwest will
continue to influence western Washington through the weekend. The
ridge will then weaken on Monday as an upper level low starts to
drop down along the British Columbia coastline from the Gulf of
Alaska. Wet, unsettled, and cooler conditions return on Monday and
will persist through much of the week as the upper level low
remains the dominant influence across the Pacific Northwest.

&&

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...No major forecast updates
were made this evening as things look to still be on track for the
weekend. The previous discussion mostly still holds for the short
term pattern. Upper level ridging across the region will keep
conditions dry and temperatures above normal on Sunday. Morning
stratus will push inland, similar to today, and could reach
portions of the interior. However, stratus will remain shallow and
should dissipate through the morning for another round of
afternoon sun. Temperatures will be in the 60s for areas along the
coast and upper 60s to 70s for the interior.

A stronger marine push is on tap for Monday morning, with onshore
gradients consistently advertising for widespread stratus to push
further inland into the Sound and all the way to the Cascades.
The stratus layer still does not look deep enough to last the
entire day, however increasing mid to high clouds will start to
pass overhead as upper level ridging across the region weakens
and an upper level low starts to drop south out of the Gulf of
Alaska. The system will be close enough for the return of rain
chances for the North Coast, the San Juans, and North Interior
during the day Monday. Rain chances will then increase from north
to south on Monday as the center of the upper level low approaches
Haida Gwaii. Afternoon highs on Monday will top out in the upper
50s to upper 60s.

Wet and unsettled conditions then continue through Tuesday as the
upper level low becomes the dominant influence across the Pacific
Northwest. Temperatures will cool even more on Tuesday and will
only top out into the 50s to low 60s across western Washington.
14/Kristell

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...Rain chances look to
continue through much of the week as the aforementioned upper low
continues to influence the region, dropping south across the
offshore waters on Wednesday and continuing to drop further south
down to Oregon and Northern California on Thursday and Friday.
Ensemble guidance continues to hint at least at a chance of
showers in the forecast through Saturday as moisture wraps back
around the low and moves into western Washington even as the
system moves inland. High temperatures will trend in the upper
50s to 60s through the extended period. 14

&&

.AVIATION...High pressure will lead to stable conditions across
western WA tonight. The flow aloft is northerly. Low level onshore
flow will increase tonight with stratus clouds pushing into the
interior early Sunday morning. MVFR to IFR cigs are possible. The
ridge will flatten over the region on Sunday but dry conditions
will prevail. Low clouds and/or fog will burn back toward the
coast during the late morning or early afternoon with VFR
conditions expected. 33

KSEA...VFR tonight with north wind 5-10kt. Winds becoming light
southerly by 12z. Low clouds and stratus in the vicinity 12-18z,
likely near the sound. 33

&&

.MARINE...High pressure over the NE Pacific will lead to onshore
flow across western WA tonight and Sunday. Highest wind/waves
will be over the outer Coastal Waters and through the Strait of
Juan de Fuca - Small Craft Advisories are in effect. A stronger
onshore push will develop Sunday night with gales possible through
the strait. The flow will remain onshore through early next week
as a series of weak fronts move inland. 33

&&

.HYDROLOGY...The daily hydrology discussion has ended until the
start of the next rainy season; it will only be updated as needed
until then.

&&
