.Heavy rain overnight and today and again tonight will drive the
Skookumchuck and Cowliz Rivers above flood stage. rain is continuing
this afternoon and will intensify this evening.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

atmospheric river continues to funnel moisture into the Pacific
Northwest, bringing additional periods of moderate to heavy rain
to the region. Strong winds, flooding, an increased risk of landslides,
and mountain snow will also impact the area through midweek. Western
Washington will see a brief break in the wet weather on Thursday,
before additional weaker systems traverse the area late in the
week and into the weekend.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...Wet weather will continue
across Western Washington into Wednesday as an atmospheric river
continues to funnel moisture into the region. Radar this afternoon
shows a brief lull in precipitation across the Sound, with the
remaining rain from this morning pushing into the Cascades. The
next round is right on its heels, however, with rain already making
its way across the Olympic Peninsula and Southwest Interior. Snow
levels have increased to 6000-7000 feet, so will continue to see
rain at the passes through this evening. Expect another round of
moderate to heavy rain tonight into Wednesday. Various hazards
associated with this system have been outlined in detail below:
Rain: Another round of moderate to heavy rain is expected to move
across Western Washington tonight into Wednesday morning. Additional
rainfall amounts of half an inch to an inch are expected across
the majority of the lowlands, with locally heavier amounts of 1-2
inches possible. The threat for urban and small stream flooding
will continue into Wednesday. With snow levels starting off high,
area rivers will continue to rise--details are outlined in the
hydro section below. Given saturated soil conditions, expect the
landslide threat to continue through Wednesday.
Mountain Snow: Snow levels have climbed to 6000-7000 ft across
the region today, however are expected to plummet back down to
3000-4000 feet overnight. This will allow for rain to transition
back to snow at the passes overnight. Current snow totals remain
just shy of winter weather advisory criteria, however will need to
continue to monitor this trend on the evening and overnight
shifts. Periods of heaviest snow look to be early through late
Wednesday morning. Those with pass travel planned on Wednesday
should keep an eye on the forecast and WSDOT pass conditions
before heading out.
Strong Winds: Southerly winds will pick up across the region
tonight, becoming blustery at times with gusts generally 30 to 40
mph. Winds will remain strongest near the water, with some spots
along the Pacific coast and Northern Interior seeing gusts to 45
mph at times. Localized tree damage and power outages will be
possible. Winds will peak overnight and gradually ease by late
Wednesday morning.
Coastal Flooding: The combination of high tide, an incoming low
pressure system, and strong winds could result in minor tidal
overflow, mainly for areas along the interior coast early Wednesday
morning. Gusty west winds could bring added waves on top of the
high tides to westerly facing areas along Admiralty Inlet and San
Juan Islands.
Expect precipitation to gradually taper across the region through
the afternoon and evening hours. Western Washington will then see
a break in the wet weather pattern on Thursday as an upper level
ridge traverses the region. Expect this break to be short- lived,
however, as a weak system is slated to move across the region
Thursday night into Friday.
.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...Guidance looks to trend
drier for Saturday with upper level ridging nudging its way back
into Pacific Northwest. Another quick shot of precipitation looks
to move across the region with a weak disturbance on Sunday.
Ensembles then hint at ridging remaining the dominant influence
across the region into early next week, with some weak systems
possibly brushing Western Washington in northwesterly flow aloft.
Have maintained a chance of POPs in the forecast for early next
week for now, but will need to see how this trend continues over
the coming days. 14

.AVIATION...A front will push inland tonight and early Wednesday
morning with west to southwest flow aloft. Onshore flow behind the
front will ease Wednesday afternoon and evening as surface high
pressure settles over the area. The air mass will be moist and
stable with widespread low clouds through tonight. Moisture and
low clouds will decrease quickly behind the front Wednesday
morning.
KSEA...Low clouds through tonight. Ceilings should lift and break
up Wednesday morning behind the front. Southerly wind 8-12 knots
will increase to 15-25 knots and become gusty tonight. Schneider

.MARINE...A front will push inland tonight and Wednesday morning.
Small craft advisory strength winds are likely most waters
through Wednesday. Gale force west winds are expected for the
Central Strait of Juan de Fuca and East Entrance later tonight
into Wednesday morning. Seas 16 to 20 feet over the Coastal
Waters and West Entrance Strait of Juan de Fuca will subside later
tonight through Wednesday night.
A second front will cross the area later Thursday and Thursday
night with another round of small craft advisory strength winds
most waters. High pressure will move over the area Friday. A
third, relatively weak front will cross the area around Saturday

.HYDROLOGY...Rainfall accumulations over the last 36 hours have been
5 to 7 inches on the Olympic Peninsula, 2 to 5 Ines in the
Cascades, and 1 to 3 inches in the lowlands. This afternoon into the
evening will see scattered showers but then heavy rain will resume
this evening with an expected additional 1 to 2.5 inches in the
Olympic Peninsula, 2 to 4 inches in the Cascades, and 0.25 to 0.75
inches in the lowlands. Snow levels are hanging around 6000 feet.
Greater than normal precipitation for the last couple of weeks shows
up in the USGS landslide indexes for soil moisture. The additional
heavy rainfall is resulting in landslides and the elevated landslide
threat will continue into Wednesday until after the rain stops.
Urban and small stream flooding is subsiding slowly this afternoon.
Increasing rainfall this evening could renew that but the heavier
rain looks to be a little more focused in the mountains for this
upcoming round.
Several rivers are under flood warnings, a handful more are forecast
to crest right near flood, with a few looking like they will crest
near moderate flood - particularly the Snoqualmie, Snohomish, and
Cowlitz rivers. The flood watch continues for the possibility of
more river flooding and renewed urban and small stream flooding. The
flood threat will continue into Wednesday. The slower moving lower
Chehalis River could have point above flood stage into Friday. River
forecasts can change frequently so those with interest should keep a
close eye on things and keep checking the river forecast webpage.
