.SYNOPSIS...Quiet weather will remain in place for today with
slightly warmer than average temperatures. A noticeable shift
towards active weather will occur Wednesday as a series of systems
make their way through Western Washington for the remainder of the
week. These systems will bring widespread rain to the area, some
breezy to windy conditions at times as well as high mountain snow.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...Plenty of high clouds out
there this afternoon however there still appear to be some peeks at
blue sky as per current satellite imagery. Starting to see some
echoes on current radar signaling the approach of the expected
front, however those are still well offshore. Current temps have
warmed up considerably mostly in the mid to upper 50s although some
locations have hit 60. As clouds continue to increase over the area,
any additional heating might be limited.
Forecast still on track for next system to make it to the coast late
this evening with rain spreading inland overnight. Rain likely to
reach the Seattle Metro just in time for AM commute and linger
throughout much of the workday and into the PM commute, but should
start to taper off during Wednesday evening. Wind speeds expected to
increase as the front moves through with some breezy to locally
windy southerlies, however speeds are expected to remain below any
headline thresholds, but locations more prone to higher winds, such
as the coast and portions of the North Interior /San Juans,
Admiralty Inlet and W Whatcom/ will likely see the highest speeds.
Thursday might be a bit of a break in the action for locations south
and east of the Sound, however, yet another system looks to push
onto the coast by late Thursday morning, keeping conditions wet on
the Olympic Peninsula for most of the day. This system will not
start to impact the eastern half of the CWA until Thursday evening
and into the overnight period. Although this front pushes eastward
Friday, a shortwave disturbance will keep rain in place for most of
the forecast area throughout the day. Inherited forecast suggested
there might be the possibility for some thunder over the coastal
waters and possibly along the coast in the Thursday to Friday time
frame, but latest guidance shying away from that opinion, with
better conditions setting up to the south of the CWA.
High temps Wednesday expected to be right around normal for this
time of year while the minor break in the action Thursday might be
just enough to add a couple degrees of heating as highs return to
the lower 60s. Another front passing through Thursday night and into
friday will knock temps just a little bit below average for Friday
with highs in the mid to upper 50s. 18
.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...An upper level low making
its way southward from the Gulf of Alaska and will be the
predominant weather maker for the weekend and into the start of next
week as a series of fronts associated with this system will pass
through W WA. The first of these looks to move through the area
Saturday with both deterministic and ensembles suggesting a brief
dry period during the day Sunday before the next front pushes in
Sunday evening and during the overnight period. As this upper low
churns over the nearshore waters, it will trigger more precip as it
gradually starts to make its way eastward Monday and into Tuesday.
Each passing front does bring with it the potential for breezy
conditions as well as gradually eroding snow levels to around 4000-
4500 feet Sunday and Monday, allowing for snowfall to return to the
higher elevations. High temperatures will take a hit from all this
activity but will remain pretty consistent throughout the long term
period, ranging in the lower to mid 50s, slightly below normal. 18

.AVIATION...South flow aloft will transition more westerly later on
Wednesday as a trough moves through the area. VFR cigs this
afternoon with increasing high clouds over the area. VFR cigs into
tonight with cigs dropping into early Wednesday morning as a front
moves through the area. VFR to MVFR cigs Wednesday morning with rain
and increasing southerly winds. VFR cigs for Wednesday afternoon.
The winds will increase late tonight into Wednesday with southerly
winds gusting to 20-25 kts Wednesday morning.
KSEA...VFR cigs into tonight with increasing mid and high clouds. A
front will move through on Wednesday with potentially MVFR cigs and
rain in the morning. Winds will be light into tonight with south

.MARINE...A weather system will move through the waters tonight and
into Wednesday for increasing southerly winds. Gales are expected
for the Coastal Waters tonight into Wednesday morning. Small Craft
Advisory winds for most other waters, although a slight chance for
gales as well for the eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca and northern
inland waters. Small Craft Advisory winds may continue into
Wednesday night for the coastal waters and northern inland, eastern
Strait of Juan de Fuca area. Another stronger system will move
through on Thursday for gales along the Coastal Waters and possibly
for northern interior waters. Additional headlines through the
weekend.
Swells of 5 to 8 ft this evening will increase to 10 to 16 ft
overnight and into Wednesday. Swells will increase with the next
system on Thursday night and Friday and into the weekend. JD

.HYDROLOGY...A fairly active weather pattern over W WA for much of
the forecast period will lead to increased flow in area rivers.
While precip amounts are not expected to trigger flooding on most
rivers, this will be an instance where the Skokomish River will need
to be monitored. Current forecast has the Skok entering Action stage
Thursday and as precip continues into the weekend, river levels may
approach flood stage by the start of next week. Obviously, the
amount of precip actually received is going to play a big role in
how quickly river levels rise, but with few breaks expected once
rain starts with the Wednesday system, the cumulative impact may
result in flooding by the first half of next week. 18
