.SHORT TERM...This evening through Monday night
Issued at 1244 PM MST Sun Dec 12 2021

Southwesterly flow will continue across the area today, as a
PACNW trough digs over the coast of California. That flow will
continue to bring strong southwest winds to the area, especially
through the Wind Corridor. Southwesterly flow will continue to
favor WAA into the region, with temperatures being 15 to 20
degrees warmer than average. Moisture influx within the flow will
keep snow showers in the western mountains through the period,
but the majority of the accumulating snow will end this evening.

Brief high pressure will remain over the area through Monday, but
as the PACNW continues to digs over the coast of California, the
associated jetstreak will begin to favor increasing winds across
the area. Presently, waiting for the existing High Wind Warnings
to expire before we issue another set of High Wind Warnings for
Monday. Other than the potential for more high wind, the short-

The Cowboy State will be influenced by southwesterly flow aloft,
with a broad ridge in place over the Plains and Northern Rockies.
The longwave trough off the West Coast will continue to move onshore
Tuesday. Conditions will be windy across wind prone locations, like
the Wind Corridor. Strong to high winds will likely be ongoing
Tuesday morning, as the trough continues to move onshore. Meanwhile,
light snow will be possible over northwestern portions and become
widespread across western portions Tuesday night. Snow chances
spread across the rest of the forecast area Wednesday morning, as
the storm system moves over the Central Rockies. Snowfall amounts
for most locations will be light. Most of the energy associated with
this system will be well to the south over the Four Corners and
begin to eject over the Central Plains Wednesday. The trough will
become negatively-tilted, as it exits. Although this would be
favorable for snow in the form of a trowal or deformation zone, the
system will be too far south to have an impact to the forecast area.
Far western portions will have the highest amounts, due to the snow
potential ahead of the system Tuesday night as well as the continued
upslope flow behind the system. Snow will continue over far western
portions Thursday and Friday, as another storm system develops and
moves over the PACNW and Great Basin. This will keep conditions more
seasonal across the Cowboy State as well. Snow will end over the far
west Friday afternoon, as drier conditions from a fold over ridge
over the PACNW and Northern Rockies moves over the area. Models
begin to diverge on the time and location of the next system next
weekend. The ECMWF is the faster solution and brings a fast moving
cold front over the forecast area Saturday night from western
Canada. The GFS is less severe and brings this system onshore
over the PACNW during this time.

.AVIATION...For the 00Z TAFS through 00Z Tuesday

West of the Divide...KBPI/KJAC/KPNA/KRKS Terminals

VFR conditions will prevail at the terminal sites through the
period. Snow is expected to end by 01Z at KJAC, with a new round
to redevelop by 16Z. MVFR/IFR conditions will return with the
snow as well. The western mountains will see frequent obscurations,
with snow at times through the period.

East of the Divide....KCOD/KCPR/KLND/KRIW/KWRL Terminals

Strong west to southwest wind will begin to decrease at KCPR and
KCOD, with gusts near 25 kt continuing at KCPR. LLWS will remain
possible at KCOD and KLND through the TAF period. Gusts near 35 kt
will return at KCPR after 18Z. VFR conditions will occur at the
terminal sites through the period.

Southwesterly flow through the day will continue to filter warmer
air into the region bringing temperatures 15 to 20 degrees above
average. Western mountain snow will be continuing through the
period; however, majority of the accumulating snow will end later
tonight. High wind will diminish overnight; however, as strong upper-
level winds and the pressure gradient tightens, high winds look to
return Monday afternoon. Another system is progged to bring
widespread PoP to the area late Tuesday into Wednesday.
