.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Tuesday)

A lot of mid and high level clouds have been streaming over the
region today, which will continue into the evening.  Forecast models
show decreasing mid and high level moisture late tonight.  Some of
the models show the potential for a few isolated showers over some
of the mtns along the Continental Divide tonight, but wouldn't
really expect much from them if they develop.

On Tue the upper ridge flattens out over the area.  There will still
be relatively light winds over the area, along with dry and warm
weather, and there should be fewer clouds.  Temps over the plains on
Tue should reach highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s, with 40s to
lower 50s in the upper Arkansas River valley and Teller County, and
in the upper 30s and lower 40s in the San Luis Valley.

.LONG TERM...(Tuesday night through Monday)

Tuesday night and Wednesday:

The upper level ridge begins move east and 500 hPa heights begin to
decrease, but dry conditions will remain over the region through the
rest of the evening on Tuesday. Increasing cloud cover will keep the
upper Rio Grande River Valley warmer than what they have been
experiencing lately. The increased low level moisture, clear skies,
and weak winds may produce fog over the San Luis Valley early in the
morning on Wednesday, which would also keep the San Luis Valley's
low temperatures warmer than it has been seeing as of late.

As a upper level trough approaches southern Colorado, a zonally
oriented jet streak will set up directly over our CWA. A mountain
wave doesn't seem likely, but pure brute force winds off the
mountains is expected. The strongest winds will form over the gap
flow prone regions, like the greater Spanish Peaks region and the
lower Arkansas River Valley. Gusts of up to 45 mph are possible over
those areas. Relative humidity values will not be low enough for any
critical fire weather concerns. Otherwise, snow is expected to
remain over the mountains throughout the day and temperatures over
the lower elevations will be well above average for this time of
year. Expect high temperatures ranging from the low 60s to the low
70s over the plains, the mid to upper 40s over the mountain valleys,
and the 20s to low 30s over the mountains.

Thursday through Saturday:

Two shortwaves will impact southern Colorado during this period, the
first will already be ongoing for the mountainous regions, but will
produce a cold front over the plains on Thursday morning. The
initial frontal passage is expected to bring light snow across the
region, but the gusty northerly winds after the cold front will shut
off snowfall chances over the the northern I-25 and much of the
eastern plains. The southern I-25 corridor and eastern Las Animas
County have a shot at orographic enhanced snowfall throughout the
day on Thursday. Snowfall amounts over that region will range from 1
to 3 inches. Over Pueblo and north through the Palmer Divide
(including Colorado Springs), amounts will likely be under an inch.

Friday looks to be a dry day for the majority of the region, besides
the Sawatch and Mosquito Mountains. Temperatures warm up a little
bit everywhere.

Another front associated with an arctic airmass is set to reach the
Colorado vicinity... I say vicinity, because it is still pretty
uncertain how far west the arctic air will be. The ensemble model
temperature spread with the NBM ranges around 50F for the plains.
The general trend that has been occurring the last few forecast
cycles is for the arctic air to be too far east, instead of
impacting the region, but cooler air is still expected to remain
over southern Colorado. Snowfall chances with the associated cold
front is decreasing with every new data cycle.

Sunday and Monday:

A blocking pattern seems to be setting up over the eastern Pacific
Ocean, which will put an amplified ridge to trough pattern over
western US. The results will be another wave moving down the stream
for later Monday afternoon which will present another opportunity
for snow across the region. Sunday is expected to be dry, though.

Wednesday as the next storm system approaches the region. The
heaviest snow will fall Wednesday afternoon and night with some
light to moderate accumulations possible along the Continental
Divide and crest of the Sangre De Cristo mountains through
Thursday morning. Snowfall totals of 3 to 8 inches will be
possible for these areas though these amounts are still subject to
change as details on the storm strength and track become more
clear.

Strong westerly winds will spread across the area on Wednesday
ahead of this system. Gusts to around 50 mph or greater will be
possible across the mountains and into portions of the southern
I-25 corridor, especially Wednesday afternoon and evening. A cold
front will move through the plains Wednesday night with the
potential for light snow spreading into the southeast mountains
and adjacent plains through Thursday. Accumulations of 1 to 4
inches will be possible for the southeast mountains and portions
of the I-25 corridor including the Palmer Divide and Raton
Ridge.

There is still the potential for colder temperatures and another
round of light snow for Friday night and Saturday across southern
Colorado. Confidence is still low concerning the details of how
cold and how much snow will fall into next weekend. Please stay
