The local office's own words before this winter weather advisory went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.
NWS Pueblo, CO wrote its last area forecast discussion before this winter weather advisory went out at Jan 25, 10:41 AM MST, 4 hours 22 minutes earlier.
Area forecast discussion, Jan 25, 10:41 AM MST, 4 hours 22 minutes before
Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pueblo CO 1041 AM MST Mon Jan 25 2021 .SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight) Issued at 347 AM MST Mon Jan 25 2021 Currently... intense bands of snow developed with associated circulation which spun up rapidly over the El Paso/Pueblo/Crowley county area earlier this morning. circulation still apparent at 3 AM vicinity KPUB. DBZ values were 30+ with some of these bands and snowfall rates were likely in the 1-2"/hr range. Still quite a few healthy bands in above mentioned areas. Per CDOt webcams, roadways were solidly covered with snow. This AM... Issued winter weather advisory for Pueblo/EL Paso/Crowley county areas earlier based on radar trends/HRRR snow totals. Most of the heavier snow over El Paso county will fall over the eastern parts of the county, and for Pueblo county most of the heavier snow will fall over NE Pueblo county. Will continue to follow trends of heavier snow and may need to issue additional advisories farther east towards Kiowa later this morning. About 1.5" has fallen here at the WFO since it began after midnight. My main areas of concern in the short term are generally east of I-25 and along and N of US50. Over the remainder of the region, clouds will slowly decrease. snow showers will still be possible over the higher terrain. Rest of today... Circulation should start to push ENE in WC KS by mid to late AM and expect snow will rapidly decrease over the region by then. Most of the afternoon should be precip-free over the area except for far NE section of the plains and the contdvd region where we will continue to see snow showers. Temps today will be mostly in the 30s across the plains with the warmer temps in the KTAD area, and lower 30s/a few U20s extending form N El Paso to Kiowa counties. The San Luis Valley should be in the 30s today, with 10s and 20s in the mtns. Tonight 2nd system will move into the region from the SW, and expect snow to pick up over the san juans after midnight. We may also see some snow shower develop over the Pikes Peak region after the midnight hour as favorable upward lift moves into the region. Accumulations will range from 2-4" in the San Juans to trace to 1" amounts the rest of the higher terrain and areas along and west of I-25. \/Hodanish .LONG TERM...(Tuesday through Sunday) Issued at 347 AM MST Mon Jan 25 2021 Tuesday...Upper low is still on track to pass over the area on Tuesday. As the system tracks eastward, most of the area can expect an extra few inches of snow, before the precipitation diminishes west to east into Tuesday evening. With pre-existing snow and extensive cloud cover expected, Tuesday is looking to be on the chilly side for high temps, with mid-20s and below forecasted for the entirety of our area. Tuesday night will be cold as well, with low teens-single digits east of the mountains and negative single digits over the higher terrain. Wednesday-Friday...After the low moves out a rather impressive upper ridge is expected to build in, boosting high temps up into the 50s over the plains and giving us a period of dry, warm weather for the rest of the week. Friday night-Sunday...Models are continuing their agreement on the timing of the next system. An upper wave is expected to come down from the Pacific Northwest and split as it approached the Rockies, sending the energy north and south of the area early Saturday. This will bring a chance of precipitation, mainly over the Continental Divide, through Saturday evening. Temperatures will also cool down a few degrees, settling around seasonal normals as the system passes. && .AVIATION...(For the 18Z TAFS through 18Z Tuesday afternoon) Issued at 1039 AM MST Mon Jan 25 2021 Improving conditions expected today with VFR conditions at the TAF sites. Clouds will spread in again this evening and overnight with another round of snow expected at all three terminals. Snowfall accumulations of an inch or two will be possible at the terminals with locally higher amounts possible. Conditions will drop into the IFR category at all three terminals this evening and remain in the IFR category through Tuesday for both KCOS and KPUB. Some improvement can be expected by afternoon for KALS with cloud breaks. -KT && .PUB WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... NONE. && SHORT TERM...HODANISH LONG TERM...GARBEROGLIO AVIATION...KT
