Currently...

Thin cirrus with some mid lvl clouds were occurring at 2 pm over
parts of the region while just to the north of the fcst area
considerably more clouds were noted. Temps over the plains were
generally in the U30s over the divides and 40s along the Ark rvr.
Interestingly, warmest temps were in the mid Ark Rvr valley where
temps were noted around 50F. The San Luis Valley was in the 40s
while the mtns were in the 10s and 20s.

Skies were dry over the region except over the mainly the higher
elevations of Lake County were snow showers were noted per Colorado
Mtn College webcam in Leadville. Winds were generally light and
diurnally drive, except across the central mtns were breezy winds
from the NW were noted per surface obs.

Tonight...

A weak disturbance will move across the region tonight. This system
will be mainly dry for the area, but it will bring some light snow
to the central mtns, especially in Lake County. An inches or two of
snow is not out of the question. Most of the snow will fall around
the midnight hour. Mins tonight will fall into the 20s across the
plains with a few low 30s in the normally warmer areas just
immediately east of the mtns. San Luis valley will once again fall
into the single digits along the river with tens across the rest of
the valley floor. Mtns will be in the single digits and 10s.

Tomorrow...

A stronger weather system will begin to impact the region later in
the day on Monday. Snow will once again develop over the central
mtns during the morning nd cover most of the contdvd by later in
day. the day. By mid afternoon snow showers will become possible
along the  mtns/plains interface, with some light accumulations
possible by rush hour. Nearly all of the remainder of the plains
east of the interstate will remain dry. Temperatures tomorrow will
be cooler than today with only 30s across the lower Pikes Peak
region and U30s and 40s across the remainder of the plains. Upslope
winds will develop by mid afternoon but should remain light. With
snow developing a bit later than earlier expected, the winter
weather highlights were pushed out to 00 UTC (see below) \/Hodanish

.LONG TERM...(Monday night through Sunday)

...Snow Over and Near the Higher Terrain Monday night and Tuesday...

Monday night-Tuesday night...Latest models remain in good agreement
with upper level energy digging across the Great Basin through the
day Monday, continuing to dig south and west into the Desert
Southwest through the day Tuesday. Movement of the this system
deepens low to mid level easterly, albeit weak, flow across the
region Monday night and Tuesday. This, combined with increasing
moisture and generally weak implied lift associated with the passing
Great Basin system, will allow for light to moderate snow to develop
and persist for areas over and near the higher terrain Monday night
into early Tuesday morning, before snow diminishes from northeast to
southwest through the day Tuesday.

With the expected movement of this system, the best precipitation
and snowfall accumulations remain expected across southern and
western portions of the area, especially the southern mountains,
where NAM and GFS solutions indicate advisory amounts of 5 to 10
inches across the southern Sangre de Cristo and eastern San Juan
Ranges through Tuesday afternoon. However, the EC and Canadian
solutions continue to indicate the potential higher amounts,
especially across the Sangre de Cristo Range. With that said, and
the fact latest models have slowed the development of snowfall into
late Monday afternoon, have decided to hold on to winter storm
watches for the Sangres and San Juans starting at 00Z Tue and
continuing to 00Z Wed. As for the rest of the area, may need to add
advisories for the Northern Sangre de Cristo and Wet Mountains, as
well as the Wet Mountain Valley, the southern I-25 Corridor and the
San Luis Valley with 4 to 8 inches possible across the higher
terrain and 2 to 4 inches for the valley locales and southern I-25
Corridor through this period. Snowfall of 1 to 3 inches looks
possible over and near the Central Mountains, as well as for the
northern I-25 Corridor into the Pikes Peak region, with a very tight
gradient of snow from west to east, as little or no precipitation is
expected east of I-25 into the southeast plains. Below seasonal
temperatures are expected on Tuesday, with highs generally in the
30s across the lower elevations, and mainly in the 20s across the
higher terrain.

Wednesday-Thursday...Latest models continue to indicate differences
in model handling of the Desert Southwest system's ejection across
the Rockies through the day Thursday, though continue to trend
towards a weak upper disturbance moving through the westerly flow
across the region bringing a few possible mountain showers,
especially along and west of the ContDvd, to the area on Thursday.
Otherwise, a dry forecast remains in place, with temperatures
warming back to above seasonal levels into the 50s across the
plains, and mainly 30s and 40s across the higher terran for both
Wednesday and Thursday.

Friday-Sunday...Model differences continue into the upcoming
weekend, though they do agree on moderate to strong west to
southwest flow developing aloft, as more eastern Pacific energy digs
into the Great Basin on Friday. The latest GFS continues to slowly
translate this system across the Rockies through the day Sunday,
where as the EC splits the system with the main piece digging south
and west into the Desert Southwest once again. Either way, pattern
supports good chances of snow across the ContDvd Saturday and
Sunday, with breezy to windy conditions expected across the area,
leading to possible critical fire weather conditions across the
plains on Saturday. NBM spreads slight pops across the plains late
Saturday and Sunday, and have followed suite for now, with cooler
temperatures for Sunday.

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of central...east
central...south central and southeast Colorado.

.DAY ONE...Tonight

Snow will continue to spread into the central mountains overnight
with 1 to 2 inches of accumulation possible across the higher
terrain, mainly north of Cottonwood Pass.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Monday through Saturday

An upper level storm will bring snow to the region from midday
Monday through Tuesday, before snowfall ends by Tuesday evening.
The heaviest snow will likely occur over the east slopes of the
southern Sangre de Cristo Range and Wet Mountains Monday night,
before shifting into the San Juan Mountains early Tuesday morning.
Lower elevations along and west of I-25 will see mainly light
snow, and the far eastern plains may only see some spotty snow
showers and flurries Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
Although snowfall amounts are still subject to change, snowfall
amounts of 6 to 12 inches will be possible across the southern
Sangre De Cristo and eastern San Juan mountains, with 3 to 8
inches possible across the remainder of the southern mountains
south of highway 50. One to 4 inches will be possible across the
remainder of the mountains to the north of highway 50, with up to
2 inches possible across the valleys and adjacent lower
elevations of the southern I-25 corridor. Roads could become slick
and hazardous, especially Monday night through Tuesday.

Another storm system will begin to impact the region on Friday,
bringing snow to the mountains from Friday afternoon into the
weekend, while lower elevations see a chance for rain or snow
beginning on Saturday.
