.SYNOPSIS...A quieter weather pattern will setup for at least the
next several days with weak fronts brushing the area with some rain.
Tonight valley fog may become dense later tonight into Thursday
morning. The next front arrives Thursday night and Friday morning,
then another Saturday night and Sunday morning for some light rain
and mountain snow. In between systems there will be plenty of night
and morning fog in the valleys tonight and Thursday night.
&&
.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Saturday...Much quieter this afternoon
after a period of strong atmospheric river event bringing river and
urban flooding, landslides and debris flows. Fortunately, the
weather will quieter for at least the next several days as transient
upper level ridges move across the region with weak front in between.
Dense valley fog is likely tonight and Thursday night under the
ridge. But the western Gorge and Portland/Vancouver metro are may be
spared from the fog. The KTTD-KDLS gradient increases to -3 to -4 mb
tonight and -5 to -6 mb Thu should provide breezy conditions to
inhibit fog development.
A 967-969 mb low in the Gulf of Alaska will rotate a weak front
across the Pacific Northwest Thursday night and Friday morning. Snow
levels will be rather high, 6000-7000 ft with this system and QPF is
rather low - so snow accumulation will be low and mainly over the
highest parts of the Cascades. The next front arrives Saturday night
and Sunday. This too is a rather weak system though a bit cooler for
snow levels down near Cascade pass levels. Will need to keep an eye
on temperatures in the Hood River Valley as precip spreads that way
Friday morning, but NBM suggests temperatures generally above
freezing with low chances for freezing rain at Parkdale Friday
morning. Pcpn ends by Friday afternoon and should be dry through
Saturday.
.LONG TERM...Saturday night through Wednesday...The rather benign
weather continues into the extended with the mean upper level ridge
position near 130W with weak systems occasionally depressing the
ridge to bring some pcpn. Overall the air mass will be on the mild
side but during periods of high pressure over the region with
clearing skies, valley temperatures likely cool to more seasonal
temperatures.

.HYDROLOGY...All coastal rivers have crested and are receding
but some are above flood stage. The Willamette tributaries from the
coast range are still climbing as the water works it way through the
river system. The Marys River however is down from major flooding
category. New warnings have been issued for the Clackamas River near
Oregon City, South Yamhill River and the Pudding River. Expect the
lower Willamette River to be on the rise this week and likely exceed
bankfull in places, but at this point it appears it should remain

hours, although valley fog development is likely early Thursday
morning. Offshore flow will bring in some drier air tonight, but
valley winds should be light and residual ground moisture enough
for IFR/LIFR fog to develop within much of the Willamette Valley
after 10Z Thursday. Fog should burn off by 18Z, although it could
hold on slightly longer in the southern Willamette Valley.

KPDX AND APPROACHES...Predominately VFR conditions over the next
24 hours. Drier offshore winds likely to persist into Thu

.MARINE...High pressure continues to build in across the area.
This has caused winds to fall below 15 kt gusts. Seas continue
to subside slowly in the mid teens and continue to slowly fall,
finally bottoming out between 7 to 9 feet by Thursday morning.
A weak cold front is expected to move into the waters Thursday
night bringing small craft advisory level winds across all waters,
followed by another long period westerly swell train arriving
which will bring seas back towards 14 to 17 feet by Friday
afternoon. Another short break is expected before the next front
arrives Saturday night with another round of small craft winds
and seas. /42
