What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this lake wind advisory went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

NWS Pocatello, ID wrote its last area forecast discussion before this lake wind advisory went out at Jun 26, 8:46 PM MDT, 7 minutes earlier.

Area forecast discussion, Jun 26, 8:46 PM MDT, 7 minutes before
Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pocatello ID
846 PM MDT Sat Jun 26 2021

.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Monday. Update this evening to expire
current Lake Wind Advisory over American Falls and re-issue for
Sunday. See previous discussion below. Huston

We have seen mostly sunny skies across all of eastern Idaho to start
the weekend. Winds have been breezy however, especially in the Snake
Plain. Lake Wind Advisory continues across the American Falls
Reservoir with gusty NE winds. With high pressure building to our
northwest, we've seen some CU stream in from Montana and Wyoming but
not expecting anything more than fair weather to come from this. The
aforementioned high continues to build over the Pac NW through the
weekend and this will lead to prolonged, dangerous heat across much
of the northwestern U.S. Enjoy the weather this weekend because even
though afternoon highs in the mid to upper 80s are still 5-7 degrees
above normal, things change significantly to start the workweek.
Temperatures will soar from Tuesday and beyond creating heat
concerns across all of eastern Idaho. More on that below. McKaughan

.LONG TERM...Tuesday through Saturday. The heatwave is still on
for central and eastern Idaho. We are still looking for record if
not all-time records for much of next week. It looks like we are
solidly into HEAT ADVISORY for most areas and EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING
for the Magic Valley and South Hills/Albion Mountains. The models
are insistent that we are going to see thunderstorms sometimes by
the end of the week. The questions become on how much IF any
moisture makes it under the ridge, or if there will be isolated
storms...a bunch of thunderstorms or just clouds. The Blend of
Models and ensembles think it MIGHT happen are want to produce
isolated thunderstorms over the mountains starting Thursday. It
seems prudent to at least put that in the forecast for now. Even if
we get something going, it would only serve to knock temperatures
down slightly...and not really put a dent in the heatwave and any
related impacts from that. Keyes
&&

.AVIATION...
VFR to prevail through the period with mostly clear skies. NE winds
will remain breezy and at times gusty until the late evening. NE
flow will continue overnight and into Sunday but generally around 10
kts or less. McKaughan
&&

.FIRE WEATHER...
While we can't rule out a stray storm along the Wyoming border
today, we are looking at dry conditions for a bit. With the ridge
still the northwest, breezy north to northeast winds will remain
place through tomorrow. The eventually become more easterly and
weaken as the ridge settles in early next week. We are still
looking at extreme heat and dry conditions, including poor
recovery in thermal belts overnight. Record, if not all-time
record highs, are expected through the heatwave especially through
midweek. The only concern beyond heat is what, if any
thunderstorms, we get from Thursday onward. The models still claim
there will be some moisture work under the ridge. The models
still claim it will be enough for thunderstorms. We will maintain
isolated dry storms across the mountains starting Thursday, but
there a few things to remember here. The first is that confidence
is low on anything happening at all until maybe Friday at the
earliest. The second is that even if we get some clouds or storms
to form, it will only slightly lower temperatures. The screaming
message that we are expecting a heatwave that could last beyond
the 4th of July is still expected, and impacts from heat risk are
still very much there. Keyes
