Delaware Bay waters north of East Point NJ to Slaughter Beach DE...

At 948 PM EDT, a gust front was located along a line extending from 
14 nm east of Pea Patch Island to near Reedy Point to 13 nm 
southwest of Woodland Beach, moving southeast at 15 knots.

HAZARD...Wind gusts 34 knots or greater.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and 
         suddenly higher waves.

.SYNOPSIS...
A surface trough will remain across the east coast through
Thursday, before a cold front settles into the area Thursday
night and shifts offshore by Friday. Several waves of low
pressure will develop along this front and impact the area as it
settles across the area and moves offshore. Several surface
troughs may impact the Mid Atlantic region into early next week,
while high pressure builds across the southeast states. Another
cold front is forecast to impact the area around the middle of
next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THURSDAY MORNING/...
The Excessive Heat Warning and the Heat Advisory will be
allowed to expire at 8:00 PM as temperatures slowly decrease.
This is the final day of this stretch of excessive heat.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 10:00 PM
and it includes the Pennsylvania counties of Berks, Lehigh,
Northampton, Carbon and Monroe, and the New Jersey counties of
Sussex, Warren and Morris.

A positive tilt upper-level trough from eastern Canada to the
Great Lakes is forecast to gradually shift south and eastward
through tonight. The airmass ahead of this feature over our area
is rather unstable with surface-based CAPE (SBCAPE) in the
2000-3000 J/kg range. A zone of 40-50 knots of effective bulk
shear is just to our north, however 30-40 knots now extends
across northeast Pennsylvania and far northern New Jersey. Some
lines of convection are ongoing and will move into our counties
shortly. The low-level convergence is not all that strong,
however strong instability and greater shear is helping to
organize convection to our west. This should hold together in a
linear or clustered fashion, with damaging winds the main threat
especially given the steep low-level lapse rates and higher
DCAPE values into our region. The greatest severe thunderstorm
risk looks to be along or north of I-78.

The convection will be moving fairly quickly given the tendency
for downwind propagation, however it is not as clear how far
south and east the storms get through the evening. Overall, any
convection should be on the decrease late this evening and
beyond owing to nocturnal stabilization. Given the rather
unstable environment and somewhat elevated near-surface winds,
storms may persist longer though than currently expected and
therefore did not lower the PoPs as fast into the overnight. It
will be another very warm and muggy night as we remain ahead of
a cold front.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...
Summary...The breakdown of the excessive heat starts Thursday,
however increasing showers and thunderstorms with some corridors
of very heavy rain are expected with even flash flooding
possible. Some thunderstorms Thursday afternoon could be severe
with damaging winds the severe main hazard.

As an upper-level trough swings across the Great Lakes and
adjacent Canada, it is forecast to close off. In advance of this
feature, weak surface low pressure tracks to our north with a
cold front slowly arriving into and across our area. A very
moist airmass with precipitable water values near 2 inches will
be in place. This combined with enough instability will result
in showers and thunderstorms quickly developing during the day.
These are expected to become more numerous during the afternoon
and evening as large scale forcing starts to overspread our area
along with an increase in the mid-level flow.

The combination of strengthening low to mid level flow ahead of
the upper-level trough and sufficient instability could result
in a few strong to severe thunderstorms in the afternoon and
evening. As of now, the greatest chance of severe thunderstorms
appears to be across our southern zones where better heating may
take place. Forecast soundings show a mixed boundary layer
resulting in steepening low-level lapse rates. The instability
profile may be skinnier, however there is some potential for
local wet microbursts due to water-loaded downdrafts. Convection
may tend to organize in a linear fashion, which would increase
the local damaging wind potential.

The mid to upper-level flow will be nearly parallel to the cold
front for a while, and given the vertical wind profiles the
convection may train over some areas. Given the high
precipitable water values and strengthening convection with
time, very efficient rainfall rates (around 2 inches per hour)
are quite possible. This would result in at least a local flash
flood threat especially within the urban areas. Given the
potential including more than one round of convection, opted to
issue a Flash Flood Watch for the urban I-95 corridor for
Thursday afternoon through Thursday night. The convection is
expected to gradually be on the decrease during Thursday night
as the airmass stabilizes in the wake of the convection and also
behind the cold front. However, given the continued large scale
forcing, at least some convection may continue through the
entire night. Given cloud cover and increasing convection, heat
indices will be well below advisory/warning criteria Thursday.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Unsettled weather will continue into the long term period with
a chance of showers and thunderstorms, especially Friday and
Saturday.

The cold front that moves across the area later on Thursday
will be offshore of the east coast on Friday and slowly shift
eastward into the weekend. Meanwhile, several areas of low
pressure will develop near the area and move along this frontal
boundary Friday into Saturday. As these low pressure systems
move along the front, a couple of surface troughs may develop on
the backside of the lows and move across the Mid Atlantic
region Friday into Saturday. As the mid/upper trough swings into
the region, several short wave/vorticity impulses will move
across the area as well, which will interact with some enhanced
moisture associated with the surface trough across the area.

By Sunday, the low will be pulling farther away from the area,
however, the unsettled weather potential will continue into next
week. The flow aloft will turn to the northwest on Sunday and
Monday, before shifting to the west and become more zonal on
Tuesday. However, with the northwest flow and westerly flow,
several short wave/vorticity impulses will move across the area
each day, which could help contribute to a chance of isolated to
scattered showers and thunderstorms each day as a lee-
side/thermal trough may develop and provide a focus for storms
to form.

By Wednesday, another cold front is forecast to approach the
area from the west and northwest, which could provide another
chance of showers and thunderstorms.

While a cool down is expected Friday, and especially Saturday
with below normal temperatures, temperatures will rebound
Sunday, and return to above normal for Monday through Wednesday.

.AVIATION /23Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

This evening...Mainly VFR. However, scattered showers and
thunderstorms through about 04Z may briefing reduce conditions
to MVFR/IFR. Southwest to west wind 5 to 10 knots. Medium
confidence.

Overnight...Mainly VFR with some local visibility and ceiling
restrictions developing. Variable wind 5 knots or less. Medium
confidence.

Thursday...Some early morning visibility and ceiling
restrictions are possible, then mainly VFR for the morning.
Conditions are expected to deteriorate in the afternoon with the
arrival of showers and thunderstorms from the west and
northwest. Wind mainly from the west around 5 to 10 knots.
Medium confidence.

Outlook...

Friday-Friday night...MVFR or IFR conditions expected with
showers and thunderstorms likely, especially during the day
Friday. West winds 5-10 knots, becoming variable during the
evening, then northwest overnight. Locally higher winds near
near thunderstorms. Low confidence.

Saturday-Saturday night...MVFR or IFR conditions with a chance
of showers and thunderstorms, especially during the day. North
to northwest winds 5-10 knots, becoming light and variable
overnight. Locally higher winds near near thunderstorms. Low
confidence.

Sunday-Sunday night...Conditions improve to VFR during the
morning hours Sunday and continue into Sunday night. A chance of
showers and thunderstorms. West to northwest winds 5-10 knots,
with occasional gusts around 15-20 knots during the afternoon,
becoming light and variable overnight. Locally higher winds near
near thunderstorms. Low confidence.

Monday-Monday night...VFR conditions expected. A slight chance
of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. West to northwest

.MARINE...
The conditions are anticipated to be below Small Craft Advisory
criteria through Thursday. Southwesterly winds will increase
for a time through this evening, However gusts should remain
below 25 knots given the hot airmass in place. As a result, kept
seas at 4 feet or less. Showers and thunderstorms will increase
Thursday afternoon and evening.

OUTLOOK...

Friday-Monday...Conditions expected to remain mostly below
advisory levels with wind gusts remaining below 25 knots.
However, seas will linger around 3-4 feet, and may approach 5
feet at times, especially Saturday. There is a chance of showers
and thunderstorms, which may lead to locally higher winds and
waves.

Rip Currents...

South to southwest winds 10 to 20 mph in the surf zone into
this evening with low-to-medium period swell. The more favorably
oriented central/southern New Jersey coast has a MODERATE risk
for rip currents into this evening, while a LOW risk remains for
Delaware and for the Monmouth County coast. Conditions will
likely be quite similar again on Thursday.

along a line extending from Revere to Elverson. Movement was east at
40 mph.

Wind gusts up to 40 mph are possible with these storms.

Pottstown, Phoenixville, Lansdale, West Norriton, East Norriton,
Quakertown, Perkasie, Doylestown, Byram, Souderton, Bedminster,
Collegeville, Royersford, Flemington, Chalfont, Tinicum, Trappe,
