At 817 PM EDT, strong thunderstorms were located along a line
extending from 17 nm south of Shark River Reef to 12 nm east of
Barnegat Light Reef to near Harvey Cedars, moving east at 25 knots.

HAZARD...Wind gusts 34 knots or greater.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and 
         suddenly higher waves.

Locations impacted include...
Barnegat Light, North Beach Haven, Garden State North Reef, Ship
Bottom, Seaside Park, Barnegat Light Reef, Harvey Cedars, Forked
River and Beach Haven.

.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front front will move across the area this evening and
overnight, before settling to our south on Thursday. This front
will begin to lift back northward Thursday night into Friday,
but likely not make it fully into the area. An area of low
pressure will move along this boundary from the Ohio River
Valley, then across the southern Mid Atlantic to our south on
Friday into Friday night. Additional low pressure systems may
form along the boundary to our south over the weekend. High
pressure briefly builds across the are late Monday into Tuesday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Severe Thunderstorm Watch #206 remains in effect for the entire
forecast area.

As of early this evening, the primary area of low pressure
remains located well to our north over eastern Canada, with a
cold front extending SW of it... currently in the vicinity of
the central Great Lakes. Downstream of this feature a couple of
more subtle sfc.troughs were evident in latest analysis, with
the more prototypical synoptic prefrontal trough over far
western PA/eastern OH, and a more thermally-induced lee-side
trough over central PA. These troughs have been the primary
focus for convection so far this afternoon, and numerous
thunderstorms... some of which are strong-severe are currently
being observed over central PA/NY.

A warm and humid airmass is currently in place over our area
ahead of the convection, with surface temperatures in the upper
80s to lower 90s and dewpoints around 70. The capping in place
early has largely eroded and thus expect convection to maintain
itself or perhaps slightly weaken as it continues progressing
through the area.

The convective parameter space this afternoon will be
characterized by roughly 1000-1500 J/kg of MLCAPE with 0-3/0-6
shear values largely 20-30kts. Severe winds remain the primary
convective hazard with steep low-lvl lapse rates/Inverted V
profiles and DCAPE values around 1000 J/kg. Think that most will
be of the individual cell downburst variety but multicell
clusters organized via individual cell cold pools are also
possible. Small hail is possible, but higher than climo WBZ0
heights along with modest mid-lvl lapse rates should preclude
widespread large hail. Think the best chance of severe weather
will be with the first round of convection associated with the
lee-side trough mid-late afternoon, as although coverage may
increase into the evening we should get progressively more
stable.

A second round of convection associated with the prefrontal
trough and associated mid-lvl shortwave looks likely to move
into the area later on this evening. Eventually the cold front
itself approaches our area overnight, however, it may struggle
to make much southward progress. Consequently (due to the lack
of notable dry air advection) there is some potential for patchy
fog (particularly in areas that receive rain) but do not have
high confidence in this.

The front will push south, while also washing out, on Thursday
leaving us in a fairly dry post frontal airmass. Although
temperatures will only be a bit cooler than today (largely low
to mid 80s) with dewpoints dropping to near 50 it should feel
more comfortable. Additionally with mostly sunny skies it will
be a nice break between systems.

&&

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
The short and long term will focus on the period of unsettled
weather with much needed rainfall late in the week into the
weekend, then drier conditions early next week for the long term
period.

The frontal boundary that settles well to our south through
Thursday, begins to lift back northward Thursday night into
Friday. However, the front will likely not make it fully into
the area, and get hung up near the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay
area, while an area of low pressure moves along the portion of
the front that extend into the Ohio River Valley. A secondary
low may form near North Carolina/Virginia area by Friday, before
it takes over as the main low as it moves offshore, pulling the
front offshore as well. Friday into Friday night has the best
chance of rainfall on the northern side of the low pressure that
will be approaching the area from the Ohio River Valley along
the boundary located to our south. This time period has the best
lift/moisture combination associated with surface features and
short wave/vorticity impulses aloft. Mean rainfall amounts
average close to one inch during the Friday into Friday night
period; this will be a much needed rainfall event since we have
not had a widespread accumulating rainfall in over two weeks.

&&

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The aforementioned low will then move to the northeast, before
additional low pressure forms along the front and moves offshore
of the Mid Atlantic over the weekend. There will be a chance of
showers through the weekend with the potential for several
short wave/vorticity impulses to accompany the low pressure
systems that are forecast to move near the area. There are some
differences with the medium range model guidance in the
placement and strength of any additional low pressure systems
that form on the front over the weekend as it stall out offshore
of the east coast. So we will maintain a chance of showers
through the weekend, especially closer to the coast.

As we begin the work week next week, high pressure will begin
to approach the Mid Atlantic region Monday, before building
fully across the area Monday night into Tuesday. This will
provide a return to dry weather for the beginning of the week.

By Wednesday of next week, there are indications that a warm
front will begin to lift back across the area, which could bring
another round of unsettled weather to the forecast.

.AVIATION /00Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Rest of Today...Prevailing VFR however temporary flight
restrictions in SHRA/TSRA will be possible... particularly
through 02Z. Strong winds and small hail will also be possible
in these storms. Winds largely out of the SW around 10kts
Outside of storms. SHRA/TSRA will result in brief sub- VFR
conditions, mainly at terminals along and west of I-95. The
stronger storms will be capable of small hail and strong
thunderstorm wind gusts. SW winds less than 10 kt. High
confidence overall, low confidence on timing of SHRA/TSRA.

Tonight...SHRA/TSRA lingering until midnight or so. A brief period
of MVFR CIGs possible immediately following the storms,
otherwise, VFR thereafter. W-SW winds less than 10 kt, then
shifting light W-NW towards Thursday morning. Moderate
confidence.

Thursday... VFR with Northwest winds around 10 knots. High
confidence.

Outlook...

Thursday night...VFR conditions expected. Northwest winds early
shift to northeast overnight. High confidence.

Friday-Friday night...Conditions lower to MVFR, then IFR
through the day Friday into Friday night with a period of
rainfall expected. East to northeast winds 5-10 knots,
increasing to 10-15 knots with gusts 15-25 knots possible.
Moderate confidence.

Saturday-Sunday...IFR conditions could improve to MVFR early on
Saturday, then remain across the area through Sunday. Northeast
winds 5-10 knots, with gusts 15-20 knots possible. Moderate
confidence.

Sunday night-Monday...Conditions expected to improve to VFR by
Sunday night and remain through Monday. Northeast winds 5-10
knots. Moderate confidence.

.MARINE...
Marginal SCA conditions are expected for the ocean waters
through early evening with wind gusts around 25kts and seas
4-5ft. Otherwise Sub-SCA conditions are expected to
prevail through Thursday with seas decreasing to around 3ft and
wind gusts only 10-15kts. Thunderstorms will gusty winds and
small hail will be possible late this afternoon into the
evening before activity diminishes overnight.

Outlook...

Thursday night...Conditions expected to remain below advisory levels
through Thursday night.

Friday-Sunday night...Winds and waves are expected to return to
Small Craft Advisory levels during the day Friday, then remain
elevated through the weekend. Winds could approach gale force Friday
night into Saturday morning.

could remain elevated for a period during the day.

Rip currents...

There is a MODERATE risk for the development of dangerous rip
currents at the ocean beaches today due to a pronounced south to
southwest wind.

Another period of elevated rip current risk looks likely this
weekend as onshore flow/surf heights increase.
